Following Catalyst. Nice log hop example around 1:05 (and Catalyst is riding on platform pedals - no excuses from the rest of ya!), followed by my best Borat impersonation. Great ride tonight! The bugs are out tho, got my first tick of the season. hmmm....not sure how to embed...you'll have to follow the link here: contour.com/stories/big-rock-ccw--2

I cant believe you guys didnt just bunnyhop that log. Im not being degrading by no means, but I clear logs that size without slowing down that much (as much as you guys). Maybe the video doesnt do it justice.
However, mistiming has caused spills as previously stated in the turkey creek thread. lol.
Great vid, very smooth. +1.

I think it's more of a surprise thing, come around a corner and all of a sudden there it is. It's about an 8" or 9" log, not something you'd want to just run over. Some of us are riding out there again tonight if anyone wants to join the fun. 6:00 in the north parking lot!

Yeah, it's definitely bunnyhop-able. I wasn't looking ahead far enough when we came to it so missed the chance. To be honest, I was so tired by the time we got there I'm not sure I would've have tried to bunnyhop it anyways. Yeah, I know...get clips!

Here's another one, from last night. Got the GPS working on the camera...but the audio is a little behind what it should be. I didn't go "wooooo!!" till after I landed the jump, not mid flight. contour.com/stories/big-rock-cw

Viewing the video with the GPS data, Google map, speed, and elevation data is pretty cool.
I wonder if it would be useful (for the noob or out-of-towner) to have short video clips of major landmarks, intersections, etc. for trail info. page on the website? Of course, it can't be done all at once, but slowly accumulate clips as you (or if you pass the camera along, others) ride around the CSRA?

I've had that same thought, short clips that portray the feel/experience of the trail. What I'd also like to do, if I get to keep the camera long enough, is to compile one video with clips from all the trails, a video tour of the CSRA trails if you will. The GPS data wouldn't make it to an edited video from different areas tho.

GPS feature = VERY COOL. Over all, what do you think of the Contour? I recently purchased a GoPro, but I'm still playing with the settings and such, but I've been very happy with it overall.

Over all, what do you think of the Contour? Still deciding to be honest. The image quality is really good (it's REALLY good before it Contour compresses it to post on their site), but the camera itself is really quirky. It's got bluetooth and will talk to your iPhone, you can download a free app that lets you use the phone as a viewfinder, and you can change camera settings. But getting them to actually talk to one another can be difficult, and you only get about a minute of connected time before the camera automatically turns off the bluetooth. The GPS feature doesn't always work, even if the camera tells you it has signal, but pulling the battery for a little while before using it seems to be the trick there Also, it doesn't come with any MTB specific mounts, you have to buy those extra. I'm using the included goggle strap mount, and lots of zip ties, right now. I do really like the way you start/stop recording - there's a slide, not a button. It's very easy to use, even with gloves and when you're zipping along the trail.

About the Contour site...it seems really slow to load. Will the software allow you to upload to Youtube, FB, etc?

I'm sure you can, but I don't know what all is involved in converting/compressing files. The camera produces *.mov files. Once I get some time on my dad's editing software and put together a longer video I'll try and put it on YouTube, I think you can end up with better image quality on YouTube (should still be HD) vs the Contour site. We'll see. I put a few files on a flash drive and tried to watch them on my TV, but the PS3 doesn't recognize the *.mov files.

If you have a mac, .mov files are super easy to edit in iMovie.

I looked at both the Contour and GoPro and honestly couldn't find that many differences in price and picture quality. I settled on the GoPro mainly because they seemed to have more exposure....I saw more videos made with a GoPro than a Contour (the crew of Deadliest Catch also makes extensive use of GoPro cameras). I also like the selection of accessories with the GoPro. That being said, I bought the "naked" version, which comes with the camera, waterproof and non waterproof case, battery and a selection of cables. I also bought the seatpost mount. Overall, I'm very happy with the product, all though the mount leaves something to be desired. The mount comes with a 3-way articulating arm that I was unable to get to stay in place on the bumps of a trail. Once I removed the arm, I had much better success. I plan on buying the helmet mount soon, but going to the RAM mounts for different angles (as suggested by the biker in Alaska). Very happy with the quality of the video, and I'm in the process of experimenting with the different settings. I use Imovie for video editing with no problems. The only other problem I've seen is when uploading video to YouTube, the quality of the video suffers greatly. I'll probably get an account with another website (vimeo for example) and see if that solves the quality issue. Overall, very pleased with the GoPro.
