Hey gang. Long time reader, second or third time poster...
I'm planning a trip to Augusta to ride FATS during Masters weekend in Augusta. Trails will be light, right? ;D
Question: Are there any good recommendations for a close camp ground? The Google indicates that that Forks Campground is closed... is this true?
Is the next best suggestion something at Modoc?
Thanks for the help,
Mike B. "Cadillac" SORBA-Woodstock

I'd probably pick the Petersburg Campground if you hurry simply because you can literally ride your bike to over 40 miles of singletrack so you could get a great warmup for FATS. It won't be a replacement for FATS because it doesn't have as much climbing but it is a great trail and it follows the lake for a good portion of it so great views and you can travel at good speeds. It is located about 15 minutes from FATS. I just looked because they fill up fast around the Master's since a lot of folks rent their houses out and have to find accommodations elsewhere if they aren't vacationing but for that first weekend of masters it looks like they still have about 13 sites left (out of over 90). Don't wait too long or you'll be lucky to get something up near McCormick, SC which is about 40 minutes away! Here is the link - www.reserveamerica.com/camping/Petersburg_Ga/r/campgroundBookingWindow.do?contractCode=NRSO&parkId=71348Modoc is also an option as is Wildwood Park which is a little further away (maybe 20 minutes away) - www.columbiacountyga.gov/Index.aspx?page=2680

Thanks Angela! As a local boy (I grew up in AGS) all these names sound familiar. It's kind of funny that people rent their house out and then camp a few miles away. ;D
Worst case, I have family in Trenton, SC about 20-30 away too.
Cheers!

Keep in mind that right across from Hamilton and a small drive from Modoc campground there is Modoc Speedway. Can get loud on race nights. also that time of year the pollen is high.
Petersburg would be my first choice. 15 minutes to FATS and it also offers mt biking from there.
