Greetings, Are there any plans to make the canal trail directional according to what day of the week it is? I and others have had close encounters(not of the third kind ;D) with trail runners and other cyclists. My most recent was yesterday with a trail runner. I ended up doing a somewhat controlled endo after "running" off the trail to avoid him. I'm not blaiming him, it's just that during the summer months it is hard to see around corners down there because of all the growth.
Thanks

Those plans are already rolling along but it might be a while before the signs are posted.........rather than having them directional by day of the week it will be by odd/even days so you don't always get stuck going the same direction if you only ride on Saturdays, etc. The Canal Authority has given their approval now the signs have to be built and installed (looks like this might be an Eagle Scout project at this point).
I've witnessed close encounters and wrecks and was involved in a head-on collision myself so hopefully we'll have it up and running pretty quickly.

I will be meeting with the scout in the next few days. We will go over in detail the requirements for the sign. The scout will then submit a design to the SORBA CSRA officers for approval. Then the Canal Authority must approve the design. SORBA-CSRA will pay for the materials and the scout can build & install the sign. Because of the likelihood of vandalism of the sign, heavy-duty material will be used. The sign will state even days clockwise, odd days counterclockwise along with arrows pointing which way is which. A yearly calendar will also be located on the sign along with EMS contact numbers and a location description so the EMS can find you.
