I'm getting back into the sport after a 3 month hiatus due to a broken foot, and am looking at riding FATS with a buddy of mine. However, neither of us have ridden FATS before. We're looking at starting out @ Skinny and possibly Brown Wave, but since neither of us have ridden out there, does anybody have any suggestions on which trails are best to start out on and what direction is best to ride each trail? Both of us are still fairly new to the sport with most of our time being spent on Old Bartram and the Canal singletrack. Thanks!

For starters, I'd recommend checking out Skinny and riding it counter-clockwise. If you've got the energy, you can continue on with Brown Wave the same direction too. They're both great choices for a first ride out there. Just watch your speed over the whoops. They can catch you off-guard if you're going too fast.

Getting on Skinny CW is easy.
Getting on Skinny CCW....take a hard right at the spot you get on Skinny CW. Then be sure to curve to the left, or you are going to going CW on Great Wall.
The turn to the Brown Wave is about 4ish mile on Skinny CCW and 2ish miles on Skinny going CW. When/if you get on Brown Wave, remember you have to exit the BW at the same place you enter it or you will keep going in circles.

Thanks for the suggestions! Just out of curiosity, I see that you have to ride parts of one loop to get to another loop....how well are the individual loops marked, or are they marked at all?

example of the trail junction signs. Also the trails have different color blazes. blue/teal is Skinny, white w/ brown inside for Brown Wave
