This is something I've wanted to bring up at meetings but have been unable to make it to them due to the high volume of bike repairs.
Another way of putting it is I've been working late so others can ride.
Fall and wet trail season is approaching and it will soon be time to attack the hundreds of drains that clog the water flow on FATS.
While there may be a number of sections that need armoring, most spots can be maintained via cleaning the drains.
Trying not to pave the trail.
I'm planning on the first session being a learning experience for most. You'd be amazed at how many people don't know how to properly clean a drain on trails. I may overdo it a bit, but evidence shows that it works. You can't have too much of a good thing.
Anywho, I'm looking at attacking them around the end of November to middle of December.
Why so late? Leaves and pine straw need time to fall. If we start any earlier then we'll just have to go back and do it again when the foliage is finished.
All my work parties will be on Sunday am. Hunting season, remember.
Get your rake face on and keep an eye out on the site for upcoming dates.
Armoring may be the flashy, glamorous job; but drain clearing is where the money is at and will always need to be addressed as long as the trails are open.
We don't need anymore chainsaw operators, we need rakers.
Keep posted for more details as fall approaches.
I'm going to try to make it to the next meeting to discuss this as a group.
Now's the time for the takers to give back.
If anyone has any comments regarding me attempting to do this last year please PM me.
