I was wondering what everyones opinion was on technical trail features? I visit the SirBikesAlot.com website a lot and I see all the cool little skinnys and log rides that they have constructed around that area of NC. I've built some of the stuff I've seen there and placed it all around my backyard (my landlord is gonna be pissed). So why aren't there any on the trails around here? I've seen dozens of places where stuff could be built at Long Cane. I would have already done it myself but I figured it must be frowned upon since I haven't seen any anywhere else. What do ya think?

I'd love to see some stuff like that (nothing huge for me tho), but apparently most people aren't into it. Some people don't want to see man made stuff in the woods, it detracts from nature. And I see that point, but I think it'd be okay if it was built with mostly natural stuff (like real logs). I think the major problem is land owners don't like them, liability issues I think. I'm sure Bill will chime in with more info on the topic.

I've thought about asking if we could build some of this stuff. My interest would be in more natural looking items....I can't see a bunch of treated ladder bridges for no reason. I always thought there was potential teeter-totter near the start of Wine Creek. I think the main reason is that takes energy to get most things done. It took alot of energy to build FATS and the other trails we've built. I think we lack the people who have an interest in this and the motivation to get permission, and the materials and the time to build it. But, here is perhaps what you are looking for. Private land to boot. www.sorba.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=24754

At one point years ago, someone built a fairly extensive "north shore" series of skinny elevated tracks directly adjacent to the canal trail in downtown AUG. I recall there being a really serious drop off incorporated in the layout. I also recall an ongoing battle between whoever built the features and those who were opposed to it. I think there were liability concerns.

LBC, Can you contact that guy and tell us who he is and where this land is? Bill, the trails are on land about two miles from a friend of mine's house in Wilminton, NC. I think it's public land. I assume LBC is talking about the Blue Clay trails? Here's a link to the trails page. www.sirbikesalot.com/entry.php?fid=56I've never ridden there, but I'm taking the bike next trip up to visit my friend. Looks like a lot of fun.

I heard back from the guy with the land and gave him call and it sounds like hes pretty legit. He is building it on his property and from what he told me he already has some cool stuff, he is building the freeride stuff alongside an xc trail and it is on Lake Greenwood. He is using materials from his construction company and is using really sturdy building to make it last for a while. He said he is looking for some feedback and that its still a work in progress. I'm going to head out there monday (hopefully) and check it out. I'm gonna take my vid camera so I'll let ya'll know whats up

Hey, I see y'all mentioned Sir Bikesalot. Does anyone know how to contact him? I led their group out to Tower and Big Rock on the day they filmed at FATS the Friday after Thanksgiving but he did not post any of the video that included me. He told me to contact him somehow through the website (which I have since forgotten) but do not see any way to contact him on the website. Link below for FATS footage in case you have not seen it. Thx for any help. Bill from Jacksonville www.sirbikesalot.com/entry.php?fid=230
