I rode Brown Wave and Skinny this morning and it was crazy soggy and muddy... totally just kidding....
We have received 2.1 inches of rain so far in North Augusta.... that is a lot of rain in 14 hours or so... with a lot more on the way today (maybe another inch or two). As much as I hate it... it needs to be closed... at least for a couple of months.

FATS will get hammered if not closed at least today thru Sunday.
Especially Brown Wave and Skinny as they are the easiest loops to ride and the wet riding is being done by folks who don't enjoy the harder loops as much as these loops.
The only upside for me personally is the loops I like the best are the least favorites of the new riders who are doing most of the wet conditions riding.
I learned this last Saturday when I was at FATS and didn't recognize a single car or person at FATS. I spoke separately to 3 different riders, all of which told me they had been riding MTBs less than 3 months. 2 were on Giants bought at Andy's and the other was borrowing a 29er from Phil to see if he liked off road riding.
Hey bike shops - when you sell a bike to these new riders, can/will you please give them a 30 second soundbite about not riding wet trails. I've heard from the shops that FATS has really helped their business. Please help us out by getting the word to these new riders to not kill the golden goose. Please.
I'll close with I think any of our trails would become mud holes if ridden by the numbers of riders at FATS. Modoc, Turkey, Wine, or any other trail we have would suffer the same fate as FATS if 20-100 cars of riders showed up to ride them as often as they come to FATS.

A great solution to this problem would be an "Intro to MTBing" flier. Something we (Local Bike Shops/LBS) could give to everyone who buys an MTB. This flier would consist of all the trail rules, regulations, and etiquette, as well as a map to local trails, emergency numbers, etc. It could also have all the info regarding SORBA-CSRA as well as a membership form. This would help educate the "newbies" and also aid in increasing SORBA-CSRA membership. Just a thought...

A good thought. Thanks for thinking of it. I'll work on it this weekend some.
