For the past several years the SO and I ride Hickory Knob SP and Baker Creek SP the first several weeks of hunting season. No hunting there. Even then we wear our light-weight orange vests. We just accept that from Oct - Jan it is our outer-most garment.
Petersburg and Horn Creek seem pretty safe after a couple weeks, but then again, use common sense and definitely wear your orange. Hopefully our newness on FATS won't cause any issues, especially if we give them respect and use common sense.

thanks, you wouldn't happen to know how to get around the fallen bridge at horn creek, the first on going cw, without having to walk the tree

Fallen bridge? Walking a tree, eh? Must be a new one, although I am not surprised. We just cut five big'uns off that trail two weeks ago. Did the tree totally take out the bridge, or is it fixable?
We are heading to Brevard today and will be gone through the weekend, but we'll take a look at HC when we get back.

I would think Mistletoe would be safe, but not sure. I've heard Keg Creek is a popular hunting area. Turkey Creek is known for hunters but Wine Creek is not. Not sure about Modoc. Having said that, in my 6 years of riding a variety of the trails at all times of day and night, I've only seen hunters on Bartram, Hickory Knob, and Turkey.

Actually on the trail, inside the park boundaries? Or on the left side of the road driving into the park? Hunting in Hickory Knob SP is illegal. But hunting on the lands just outside the park is legal.

Hickory Knob, eh? There's so many deer in/around Hickory Knob that hunters would nearly beg to be allowed in there! I have had deer actually snort and chase me a short distance down the trail! Them bad boys think (know?) they own the place and they seem to know they can't be hunted!

The canal towpath is real nice this time of year, with all the leaves changing colors and everything. Make sure to wear your helmet and watch out for the soccer moms with their strollers...other than that I think they should pave the whole thing too...but it is a nice trail

There was an article in the Metro Spirit about a year ago where it quoted him saying that it would be a good idea to pave the towpath. That makes about as much sense as paving the Fats!

Paving the FATS would be sheer lunacy but I could give you good arguments both for and against paving the towpath
