Who wants to go? Sept. 7th - East Macon Park, Macon GA It's only $20 to race, and you can still go even if you don't have a single speed, you can just lock out your derailluers. Who's in? www.gsschamp.com/

I did this race last year, it is really a neat event. It was at Fort Yargo in Winder, GA, which was pretty tough on a 1-speed (the famous gas-line climb never ends... ). Really fun atmosphere, very laid back, low-stress vibe (until the racing starts, then it is balls out!) Note that the classes are by age only, no separation between beginners, Sport, and Expert, so unless you are really on your game, plan on being somewhat humbled when the fast guys check out in a hurry! Doesn't matter, you end up having your own race once things settle out after the first few minutes. This is a one-of-a-kind event, I could be talked into going again.

Yeah, I forgot to point out that I am no way going with the intent of placing in the top 3 or 5.
I just don't wanna be last!

Slight change of plans...I've decided to do the Time Trial instead of the XC race. The TT is on Sat., not Sunday. I'm planning on getting there at 8am, getting signed in, then riding the course.

Not sure that orange suit would keep you from getting shot down here in these parts

Now Angela, without a photo or technical diagram, we are left to guess at which of your "parts down here" you may be pointing at. Tell me it's your toes......

Not sure that orange suit would keep you from getting shot down here in these parts I agree. It's one of those that encourages getting shot at.

If I saw any of these "suits" on the trails I would highly encourage hunting on the trails.

Not sure that orange suit would keep you from getting shot down here in these parts Calm down B2, time to nip this in the bud! Down here in these parts aka down here in the deep south where the men take their hunting and their manliness very seriously and that orange suit looks a bit like......a target!

Well, no orange suits or whitey-tightie racers today. I suspect they'll show up tomorrow.
I did the time trial today. The course kinda sucked....it was a combination of 2" deep pine straw, grass, sand, and cacti. (yes....cacti...I flatted on my pre-ride this morning). The BMX track was in awful shape...it was half covered with waist high grass. Apparently races aren't held there anymore. It was a fun event none the less. I was on my bike, so, I had fun. Two things cost me time (besides being wore out, out of breath, etc) One of the racers that started before me missed a turn and blew through the tape marking the turn. Since the tape was down, I missed the turn also. Luckily someone wasn't far behind me and yelled at me to turn around. I think everyone missed that turn after the tape got knocked down. Then at the bottom of a very fast downhill there was a sandy corner, and while trying to decide which line to take I forgot to pay attention to the trees on the side of the trail, clipped one w/my left bar end and got tossed off the bike into the sand. Didn't get hurt at all, not even a scratch, just lost all my momentum and a little time. Sure am glad I have barends...without them I could have ended up with some broken fingers.
The course was 3.5 miles long, and I finished with a time of 20:15, good enough for 2nd place in the 20-34 year old male class, sweet! I think there were 6 or 7 people in my class. In the overall standings I think I just barely made the top half (20ish riders total). The fastest time of the day was just under 17 minutes I believe.
If I hadn't crashed I might have won my class (maybe...). But, my goal was not last, so, I'm happy. If I do it again next year, I'm going to do the XC race. I think that would have been more fun.
