I just wanted to say how much I personally enjoyed our IMBA/SORBA FATS weekend and I heard that echo from others as well. From start to finish this was a phenomenal event!!! The social at Vinny's Pizza on Friday night was such fun and catching up with old friends from near and far set the tone for the entire weekend.
Today was sensational and I believe we ended up with 92 participants - seeing all those mountain bikers gathered together to finish up some trail work and officially ride the trail for the first time was terrific. I think everyone managed to get fed lunch and folks we absolutely raving about the trail!!
Longtime SORBA supporters USFS folks - Glen Kansanback and Joe Robles came to support our efforts and celebrate the grand opening of this trail as well.
The BBQ dinner at Merriweather Community Center was excellent and again you couldn't have asked for better company or more fun - the turnout was just great and we were so happy that Tom and Belinda Sauret, SORBA president Keith Owen, and such a large group of representatives from around the southeast came to help and celebrate with us.
It was a pleasure meeting and working with IMBA trail care crew Nat and Rachael Lopes. Nat sharing videos from some of their rides was such fun.
The volunteer effort to pull this weekend together went smoothly under the guidance of Liz Victor.....thanks Liz and thanks to all the volunteers who helped put this weekend together!
Bill your tenacity over the past few years to realize the dream of having this trail definitely has paid off and what a real gem this trail is!!
Although the trail is now officially open please remember the tread is not totally settled in and as a result this trail is more sensitive to wet conditions. We still have more to finish but we don't want to damage this remarkable trail in the meantime!!
