Well things are coming along nicely at the FATS. I tested the flow today on about a 1.75 mile section. It has the potential to be off the graph. It's too early to tell as the tread is soft most of the way.
Of the 1.75 miles I saw, about 1.25 miles of it are as done as they can be in these extremely dry conditions. The other 1/2 mile needs roots cut and some finish work.
The volunteers have been great. They've spent most of their time clearing corridor. The corridor is extremely thick with either small pine trees or scrubby vegetation. We need some rain badly. It's too dry to finish the tread the way it needs to be done.
The section I tested today has huge potential. It's highlights are two downhill runs with some jumps. It's too soon to tell exactly how the lines will form, but it looks like big speed with jumps and bank turns. Another section had these deep crater like features with steep walls....reminded me of the moon. I called this run "Dark Side of the Moon". We turned around at the bottom and it was a nice climb as well. The loose topsoil made the climb tougher than it will be when it gets packed in. It was never steep, but a steady grade the whole way.
The crew will be out there all this week. As soon as we get rain, we'll start finishing trail. If anyone wants to volunteer, any day of the week, let me know.
