When: Saturday July 6th, 2013 at 9am Where: Horn Creek What: A 6 mile loop through diverse terrain, not technically difficult but with some good climbs (for this area) - this loop makes up 75% of the Baker's Dozen Mountain Bike Event (13 hour/6.5 hour) coming in October come check it out! There are some things going on during the month of June that will have to happen in order for this ride to take place. - A crew is going out next weekend to remove 15+ trees that are down on the trail.
- There is a work party schedule for the last weekend of the month to rebuild the bridge that was crushed by a large tree sometime back. We have to have delivery of the materials for the bridge from the USFS in order to rebuild the bridge. There is no ride around if the bridge has not been rebuilt prior to the ride.
[/b] This is an intermediate level trail but as long as you are a reasonably fit rider don’t miss the opportunity to check this trail out. The terrain evolves over the 5 different sections of trail with a nice ride alongside Horn Creek! There will be ride leaders and sweepers so no one left behind. You do not have to be a member of SORBAcsra to join us so bring your family and friends. In the event the weather or trail conditions are not acceptable, the ride will be cancelled so watch for postings here! Questions?? or post here Trail Profile[/ul]

Any more information about the workparty? I'm off the last weekend of the month, but was curious if a specific day has been picked yet....

More than likely that Saturday (all dependent on receiving the materials in time of course) - your help would be welcomed! Also will have more information about how many people we'll need to get the job done soon.

Just a note from someone who hasn't been in the area long. The section on Lick Fork under the "trails" folder on the SORBA-CSRA homepage has a link to FATS for its "click here for directions". I can find it, but this link is incorrect.
Thanks.

The driving directions link opens to a page with a list of trailheads on the left side. The actual map (3/4 of page width) defaults to FATS south trailhead. If you scroll down list on left side, find Lick Fork (Horn Creek), and click on it, the map then shows the Lick Fork trailhead.

Trail clear and sweet this morning. Probably cleared a billion spiders on the first lap. YUCK! Just kept the mantra going that Angela says they are not poisonous. :-) Didn't encounter those spiders on subsequent laps...

The Horn Creek EtTR for Saturday, July 6th is cancelled Surprisingly, it is not because of rain or wet trail, but Sections 2 and 4 have enough thorny bushes encroaching on the trail that our trail champions said "they bled for hours" after riding a few laps. Which is worse: spiders or blood letting? Anywho...it'll probably rain anyway (with thunder in the background as this is being written). At the monthly meeting on Tuesday night (July 9th), we will prioritize work parties for the summer (i.e., FATS, Horn Creek, Turkey mow-a-thon, etc), tree removal, discuss the remaining work party at HKSP, set dates for the inaugural FaRT@FATS Predictor Series, and hear about the FATS 50K trail run scheduled for this fall. Since it will likely be raining Tuesday night too, I anticipate a big turnout at the monthly meeting. Be there or be square.
