Moving off now but FATS received what looked like moderately heavy rain for about an hour tonight. Give it 24 hours to dry out - trails should be good by Tuesday if no additional rain!

We currently have only enough people signed up for Sunday's workparty to finish up a couple of areas that still need the DR mower or hedger so looks like we are short about 2 dozen volunteers. If you like the trail well enough to ride it, please give back by coming out to help maintain it (3 hours is not a big commitment)! Sign up at SORBAcsraThank you!

I'm looking forward to getting out and helping on Sunday! The trails have been near perfect and with a little more effort they will be perfect through the fall and winter. If we get the rest of the vegetation cut back, hopefully nobody will get stung by hornets again (like Chaos did on Skinny last weekend) and it will reduce the chances of picking up ticks.

Although FATS escaped some rain earlier in the day, the steady rain from mid evening and through the night did give it a good, steady drenching. FATS is too wet to ride! More rain is predicted today through Saturday and with the unseasonably cool temps (mid-70's) it will take longer to dry out once the rain stops.

We are now on our 3rd day of rain and it has been raining all day. FATS is too wet to ride and more rain is in the forecast. Please do not ride the trails when they are wet hopefully thing will begin drying out next week!
The work party schedule for this Sunday is cancelled due to wet trail conditions!

Rained more during the night and still misting this morning with more rain headed this way in the next few hours. Hopefully the trails will have an opportunity to dry out early in the week!

FATS rain gauge report>. Since early Wednesday night/Thursday morning there has been just shy of 3" of rain (less than half a tenth) as of 3pm Saturday. Rained good for a few hours after it was checked.
Predictions for the next few days don't look good unfortunately!

FATS picked up another 2.25 inches from Saturday afternoon through Sunday early evening. We'll need at least a couple of dry sunny days for the trails to dry out before they can be ridden again.

FATS remains closed by the US Forest Service!Looked like FATS did not get additional rain on Monday or through most of Tuesday so wanted to take a look and see if the trails were starting to dry out some. Unfortunately a lot of water still on the trails and then just after I left the area another popup moved over the area. Was good to see there were no visible tire tracks so riders seem to be respecting the USFS closure! Looks like we have some drier weather ahead. USFS Closure with sign y There was a dark cloud behind me as I was driving up but could not tell which direction it was heading, appears that it unleashed more rain on FATS yesterday evening.

FATS is still closed and it received some more rain yesterday evening but if the weather predictions are accurate it looks like might be headed into some drier days ahead!

FATS will remain closed through the weekend.
We received word from the USFS-Long Cane Ranger District that, barring more rain, FATS will be re-opened Monday morning.
Please be aware that FATS is still officially closed by the USFS and poachers can be ticketed.

Keeping a few mud riders off the trails by getting the Forest service involved may keep everybody off permanently. All the USFS cares to manage is pine trees. Recreation is a secondary headache to them that gets in the way of their logging contracts.

Recreation is a secondary headache to them that gets in the way of their logging contracts. The Forest Service has been involved since day one because they are the land manager. In September, we are having a high level meeting with the Long Cane Ranger District/officials from USFS Region 8 and I will ask for their response to this post. Can you provide any background or facts to support your statement - particularly as it relates to the Long Cane Ranger District and FATS?

Maybe those that would stay away need to if they don't respect the trail.
