Come join our first Explore the Trail ride for 2012 at Hickory Knob State Park. This is a great trail any time of the year but the lake views during the winter months are stunning! We'll meet at the big red barn at 1pm on Saturday, February 4thThere are three trails - the main one is the Lake Loop at 7 miles long, plenty of people will ride all three loops or do the Lake Loop more than once but if you want to come out and check out this great trail we will have people riding sweep so no chance you'll be left behind. It's fun, fast flowing, and perfectly suitable for reasonably fit novice riders. Here is the link to the SORBA-CSRA information on the trail: www.sorbacsra.org/Trails/HickoryKnob.htmKeep an eye on the website, we will not ride if weather or trail conditions are not good! Allow yourself about 45 minutes to get there from where Fury's Ferry Road crosses the bridge into South Carolina. I'll post some directions later.

The chance of rain tomorrow is currently slightly higher right now in McCormick than it is in Augusta. Please check back prior to leaving for the ride, we will post by mid-morning!

The Hickory Knob ride is a go! The weather prediction has improved since earlier - 10% chance of rain until 4pm. Directions from Fury's Ferry Road in Evans - cross the bridge into South Carolina (now you are on 28) and drive for about 23 miles to McCormick, SC. At the light turn left onto 378 Drive just under 6 miles to state road S33.7 (it is the road just past the convenience store). Drive just over a mile and a half to the entrance of Hickory Knob State Park on the left (I think it is marked Resort Drive but there is a sign for the Park). Turn left it is about a mile give or take to the big red barn on the left. You can't miss it up on the hill on the left. Allow yourself a good 45 minutes from the bridge taking you into South Carolina. See you there! If you run into any difficulties my cell is (706)799-0209

Thanks to everyone who made it out to ride - I think there were 15 riders total. Unbelievable to have a 70 degree day on the 4th of February but it made for a great ride. Special thanks to Michael and Barbara Drawdy who went up early to do some chainsaw work on the Lake Loop and Turkey Ridge, the trails were in great shape but with those trees removed they were fantastic. Hard to believe this trail has been on the ground for nearly 11 years now! We ride Bartram and FATS quite often simply because we have busy schedules and times are often tight but seriously - if you keep just riding those trails you are missing out on some fantastic riding opportunities in our area. If you missed the ride and want a peek at what you missed - take a look at the link below - then gather up some friends and head up there to check it out. The lake loop is also one of the best hiking trails around in my opinion. I did pick up a tick yesterday so keep checking even in the winter months.
