Arnold, I’m working on a story for Sunday about bicycle lanes in the area (or lack thereof). Can you put the word out I’m looking for cyclists to interview who either use lanes or wish there were more? Also, we need a volunteer to ride on Washington Road or maybe Walton Way with video cameras on the front and back of their bicycle to give a first-hand look at what cyclists see during their ride. Any ideas?
Thanks,

Bike shops could probably hook him up with some folks. It may be tough finding someone willing to ride Washington Rd (I wouldn't!). I know I've seen the two fixie "hipsters", if you will, ride on Washington tho.

ive seen a guy on a mt bike ride down washington road in front of Lexus. Havent seen him lately but I used to see him a few times a week. Washington Road would be like riding on Riverwatch, plain stupid.

I have a helmet cam and have left a message for him since we both work for the same company! I think I can also borrow a second one.

Sounds like he's already decided bike lanes are The Answer.

One of my ideas.....could hit bike safety plus the benefits from cycling. My email to Kyle and others.
From: Barrett, Arnold Sent: Wednesday, August 03, 2011 3:33 PM To: 'Mark Fulcher'; 'meganrn@cheerful.com' Cc: Martin, Kyle; 'amytopham@hotmail.com' Subject: Mark and Megan; kyle
Megan I was wondering if you could get your unicyclist doctor friend who commutes to work via Walton Way......he would be perfect for Kyle below.
Mark, Spryng told me Amy was going to be in town bring JT jerseys (i got one ƒº ); not sure if this a good idea, but didn¡¦t know if their tri-girl bunch (Lynn, Spryng, Amy, Sam Bundy, etc, etc but NO the ¡§Bomb¡¨ Frankie Phillips lol) would be up for commuting with Megan¡¦s doctor friend from the hill down Walton toward the hospital. Maybe even get Bonnie Burke to ride along.
Dr. Dan Dickinson was good 20 year cycling friend of mine; awesome guy and athlete in his day. Maybe kyle below could make this not only about bike safety, but about health, the benefits of cycling, and the cycles of life. Have some sorba friends with helmet cams.
Can the both of yall contact your group and or Kyle Martin below......don¡¦t think Washington road commute is wise; think more of Megan¡¦s friend or JT¡¦s radiation commute route would be more appropriate.
As you see for some reason Kyle and the newspaper always contact me about cyclists or runners, accidents or illnesses involving athletes. Guess they figure I know something; either the people or the sport. . JT would be all for promoting cycling safety and benefit.
Kyle, maybe your article could not only focus on cycling safety and dangers but also on the benefits, both health and inspirational, from cycling or other sport activities. Amy Tisdale will be back in town bringing many of us JT cancer jersey¡¦s which I will wear with pride as a pace guide for the bike for ballet Sunday. You need to come out and see a bunch of ironmen in tutus riding the course for benefit of dance schools for children.
I passed this along to Amy; not sure if this is good idea; i feel somewhat awkward given the circumstance.
Ain¡¦t Right N OLD.

I rode from Windmill Plantation to Outspokin in the middle of the day during the week; Washington Rd to Davis to Walton Way to Outspokin. I felt OK with it, nobody got too close and I hugged the white line. Wouldn't want to do it on a regular basis though. My wife doesn't want me on the road at all, anywhere.
