The connecotor routes on the SC side of the river are up. Probably be this weekend before I can get the GA side posted. Once the GA side connectors are up I'd like to get the elevation profiles up as well as downloadable GPS files people can put into their Garmin to follow the trails/routes. I'd also like to put together a booklet with all the trail info in it. Maps, elevation profiles, descriptions, driving directions, etc. Again, thanks to dsquared for helping with all the GPS stuff. Check out the connector routes and let me know if you see any errors. I found one already, but not major. I have "50 miles" as the length of The Connector, when it's actually 54. I'll fix it tonight, let me know if y'all see any other errors. We'll also get the directions on the maps (when you click on a line) to match what's on the site to keep everything the same. I'm also going to change the start location of the Modoc/Turkey/Wine lollipop to the Wine trailhead on HWY-283. I've posted all of them I know and have ridden, are there other any connectors I don't have on there? Isn't there a 'parks connector' or something? EDIT: Dang, forgot I had a PM from Todd from a while ago with the 'correct' names for the routes! I'll get them changed as well tonight. Connecting Modoc and Turkey starting at either and returning via the same trail is "The Connector". Connecting the above two plus Wine Creek and returning via the trail is "The Connector with Special Sauce" Connecting any of the two or three and then returning via the road is qualified as being a "Creampuff Connector". Yes, even adding a third, but not returning via the trail qualifies the ride as "Creampuff" seeing as the return trip via pavel is worse than the trail itself. I know cause I've bailed in that direction before and learned my lesson the hard way.
Hope this helps.
Todd

Another thing that may help is the link to all the forest service roads. I printed it off a few years back from a link you passed along.

I'll do that brianW, thanks for the suggestion.
BV found an error on the Modoc/Turkey pavel connector, around the FS-632/Washington School Rd intersection.
Anyone else seen anything wrong?

I mapped out all the forest service roads in Google Earth (per the 2011 Motor Vehicle Use Map) if you would like to add it....let me know.

I mapped out all the forest service roads in Google Earth (per the 2011 Motor Vehicle Use Map) if you would like to add it....let me know. Yeah, maybe, send it to me and I'll take a look. Ideally, you'd like to have the FS roads marked on the same Google map with the tracks, routes, and directions. You can draw the lines for each FS road (or use GPS tracks), but getting them labeled on the map is the hard part. Each FS road will be labeled in the left-hand column, but you almost have to make custom icons to get the name/number of the FS road to show up on the map (if it isn't already there). The problem with the icons is that they don't scale proportionately (maybe inversely?) with the zoom level of the map. For example, at a low zoom the icons are huge (i.e., readable) but obscure/clutter the map. At high zoom, the icon is smaller, still readable, and looks great. Unfortunately, you need the maps to start at low zoom. I haven't figured out a solution to this. The geoacaching.com site is nice because their Google maps have two extra layers/buttons in the upper right corner; in addition to "map" and "satellite" they also have "topo" and "terrain". The topo data is provided by mytopo.com and frequently contains marked FS roads. Less relevant to this discussion, but kind of neat is the terrain layer, which is similar to a shaded relief map. ...But I digress.

yes, I looked at labeling each road, (as well as parking areas, etc. for trails) but ran into the clutter problem myself. After fiddling with Google Earth for a few hours, I made no progress towards solving this problem and gave up. I definitely think some people may find a map of the FS roads useful, but what I currently have may need some polishing up to make it somewhat easier to use with labels and such. I'll send it as soon as I get a chance.

GA routes are up. I'm not entirely happy with the directions, can't really say why, just don't like them.....any suggestions??
Changed the names of the SC side routes, fixed the error seenvic found, and added some more details about the Turkey/Wine intersection.
Still need to: -add the map to The Connector page -change start point of the Modoc/Turkey/Wine lollipop -add link to USFS motor vehicle use map -look over the FS road Google map kconner sent me
Should be able to get to that stuff this weekend some time.
Now go find my mistakes. I'm sure there's some in there........

"The Connector" does not have the google map at the end.
"The Dark Star Loop" might want to have "or Sumter Metric Century" attached to it. Some riders may all ready know of it as this only.
I have heard of "Long Cane Massacre" route but have no idea what it is or even if people would be interested.
Also you can connect FATS to Bartram by fire roads, 3 miles on 28 and down Luke's Ferry Rd, come out at the bottom of the Dam and than cross it. Believe I heard it called the Clark's Hill Connector. Been thinking of it and have no idea if anyone has done it. Talk about a FATS/Thurmond Mega Epic!
Looks great! Awesome job.

Canal directions are already there, along with a paragraph explaining why it's important to follow them EDIT: found an error on the Dark Star loop @ end of Turkey Creek.

Been thinking of it and have no idea if anyone has done it. Talk about a FATS/Thurmond Mega Epic! Looks great! Awesome job. Where did the comment on Long Cane Massacre come from? I didn't see it listed as a route. There really isn't one LCM "route". LCM was an event we did in 1999 that started above LCHT and ended the next day at Hamilton Branch SP. Since that event, unofficial one and two day LCM rides have been done that usually start at the LCHT and end at the parks in McCormick (day one) and if there is a day two, goes on to Modoc/Hamilton Branch. But over the years, the route has changed. SMC vs. Dark Star Loop. The Dark Star Loop is the original name of this ride that started with half a loop of Horn Creek and ended with the other half of the Horn Creek Loop while riding Wine, Turkey and Modoc in the middle. SMC is an event that has been on this loop, starting and ending at various places on the loop. Some will understand the Dark Star name and others will just scratch their heads and wonder WTF is Dark Star. I've thought of signing this loop with custom stickers saying Dark Star Loop. I never understood how the original name got dropped and like very much that it has come back. I would not want the SMC name on this route as that is an event that almost moved to Bartram Trail and may move to other trails in the future. I'd say we could add "The Parks Connector". This is riding HKSP and BCSP in the same ride. I'll work on it. This could get better if the SVRR singletrack is ever built. I haven't heard of anyone doing this ride in a while, but it used to be done quite abit.

Where did the comment on Long Cane Massacre come from? I didn't see it listed as a route. Earlier in the thread I asked if there were any additional routes I didn't have listed. I had forgot about LCM, but know nothing about it as it was way before my time here. Interested in the Parks Connector for sure.

I don't think Long Cane Massacre was mentioned on this thread. Just have heard you and a few others mention it. I knew it way back before I moved to the CSRA but assumed it was a specific long route. Every once in awhile the name comes up that is why I brought it up here.
Valid point on Dark Star vs. SMC.
