bonus for naming the trailbuilders. Neither live here now, one never did. Other moved away. Trail should be easy to name.

Looks like Michael Burton in the background, not sure about the other guy. Looks familiar though. Seems like it was someone from IMBA? Rich Edwards? Or is it Todd Branham?
And I agree, it looks like Hickory Knob, Lake Loop.

The big lake overlook on HKSP, about a mile or so in CW.
MB and Rich Edwards in the pic. Rich, his wife Jen and MB made a whole slideshow of this section being built. the first pics were just the pin flags and each stage of construction was shown. That slide show was part of the IMBA TCC presentation for a long time, and may still be.
Either JP3 or Doug, whoever post a pic first.

I'm not sure of the exact location here, so just the name of the trail will be sufficient. Bonus for direction of travel of the rider, identity of the rider, and what kind of bike they're riding. ;D Also, if this one proves too difficult, I have an easier one.

bonus for naming the trailbuilders. Neither live here now, one never did. Other moved away. Trail should be easy to name. We are camping here, again, for the umpteenth time this year. Will be here again...and again, for years to come. We joined SORBA/CSRA due to this trail. HKSP grabbed us. Big time. As long as I am around, and riding, this trail will be on my very short list. My post may or may not cause anyone else to join. Thank you for the picture. We do, we believe, understand what it takes to make a viable trail. We never underestimate, or take for granted, what it takes to make a trail that is enjoyable to ride. Trails do not just pop up. We try to give back a tenth of what the original sweaters (those that sweat, not argyle) put into it. We feel so fortunate to live in an area that values mountain biking. MD P.S. We own an RV because of this trail. We now golf because of this trail. We own a boat because of this trail! Stop! The! Madness! Just kidding...Not really. Not at all.

I never get on my bike that I don't give thanks to the many who have given so much to off road riding in the CSRA. Thank you all.

HK also the catalyst for my 4-5-6 CSRA visits each year. Picture well depicts the effort required to construct. Good post MD, agree.

Doug, reminds me of Deep Step going ccw just before the first power line crossing. But I am sure on it.

Is that the rock on GW if going CCW there should be a major jump line there (was when we built it, but it never got ridden and died).

Not for sure if it's that exact spot, but it's on GW for sure. Your description sure sounds right on the money though, I remember a dip just on the other side of the rock. Shoot, I was starting to think that I was gonna have to post the easy picture. ;D southernfriedgator.com/pics/trail02.png

Assuming it's not the rock just after the tight and twisty section travelling CCW, where exactly would this jump be? Shame that some of these features have faded into the environment....

Ya'll have me wondering now, I'm gonna have to come back down that way to ride just so I can find it again. I was thinking it was before the twisties, but looking back at all of the pics I snapped that day, there's a few that I took in the twisty section and they are ordered before the shots at the rock. So I guess it's after the twisty section.
I remember it being a pretty prominent feature, which is why I decided to use the shot above.

Doug picture from GW......It is after the rake n ride section of GW if going CCW. When built, there were two lines. One going around the left of the rock and that line is still there. We also built a "landing ling" if one took the jump off the rock. It is too big for me to ride/jump. It is the line that if we had some local freerider types, would still be there. We don't seem to have much of a freerider population, and the line died. Here is the next one. One of SORBA's founders (not SORBA CSRA, SORBA) has his back to you and the "mouth of the south" is holding up a tool. And one of our more lovely locals on the left. Those are Shrimper's kids riding. These are the first wheels this freshly armored section ever got.

I believe this is the same rock you're talking about (in Doug's post). If so, the line to the left in this picture would be the ride-around, the line to the right would be the designed line, and down the middle would be the designed jump. Assuming this is correct, the jump line is still viable, just not easy to see. One can easily roll over the rock at an easy pace and their weight back on the bike, or one can also easily jump it if traveling at a decent pace.

I don't remember the rocks being that big, but another short rock garden appears to be in the back ground, right after turning right.

KC....That photo above is at the new Bartram Trail, I think. I don't think there is a jump line there but I have rolled over that rock when I ride there. Doug's photo was from Great Wall.
My photo with Shrimper's kids is not from the Great Wall.
