Hey all,
My wife and I live in North Florida and we have been planning on making a trip up to FATS this month. We were going to come up this weekend but it seems like every time I check out Sorba's website Fats is closed due to one thing or another. I guess my question is "Is it still closed due to rain / control burning?" And if so when should we plan our trip. This was really the only month we can do it until September and could change our plans to later on in the month if necessary. Any info / advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

After posting this, I looked around a little more and it looks like dgaddis1 answered my questions. Any idea as to when it might reopen?

give it a few days in terms of the trails drying up, As far as the burns the verdict is still out on whether they have finished or not... well at least i don't know.

live close by and the Forest Service has not burned yet. (4/5) I am sure as soon as myself or another local sees it burning it will be posted.
We had some rain last night but the rest of the week looks like warm temps. and blue skies.

Awsome, that is good to hear. The wife and I were planning on hitting up FATS this weekend and Alafia in Tampa two weeks later but were contemplating switching the trips. However, from the sound of it we are probably going to be Ok.
We usually camp when we go on these trips, so do any of you have any suggestions on where to stay?

Normally a great place to camp would be the Petersburg Campground on the Georgia side but I know a friend waited a bit late and is now in primative camping due to this being Master's Week. I suspect it will be difficult finding a camping spot close in through the coming weekend. Some other spots to try perhaps would be the Modoc, Hamiliton Branch, Hickory Knob or Baker's Creek campgrounds on the South Carolina side. You can check the availability on all of those by using this site: www.reserveamerica.com/Just a note, we have 150 miles of trail in our backyard so even if they happen to be burning at FATS that will leave you with about 120 left. All singletrack and all good with good variety. Anyone on this forum will be happy to give you information!
