Hi - Here is the scoop.........the main trail has four trees down other than that it is in great shape. There are a couple of SORBA members that will try to have those trees removed prior to the ride. Hickory Knob State Park Saturday, July 9th Day Ride/Night Ride/Fireworks As expected the weather may be a factor for this event so please check the website www.sorbacsra.org .......an event update will be posted there by noontime on Saturday. I was told they ( Lincoln County, Georgia and McCormick County, South Carolina) always hold Thunder on Thurmond AFTER the 4th of July so they can buy massive amounts of fireworks since they get them at a discount price and it has been a really good show in previous years! Plan to meet at the Big Red Barn at 5pm for the daylight ride.....the ride will begin at about 5:30. Some will only ride the Lake Loop others will ride Turkey Ridge and Beaver Run as well for a total of about 15 miles. There will be cold watermelon, snacks and PowerAde at the Big Red Barn after the ride. Again there will not be a SORBA cookout at this event.........we will save that for another time........so feel free to bring your grills, picnic lunches, etc...if you want dinner between the daylight and night ride......there are picnic tables behind the Big Red Barn we just need to put them back after we use them. Remember to bring your bug repellent and folding chairs. Those doing the night ride need to be at the Big Red Barn ready to leave by just before 9pm - this will allow time to get into place out on the peninsula prior to the start of the fireworks. Remember that if you are not riding the nightride you will have to leave Hickory Knob State Park to view the fireworks........it can be difficult to find a good viewing area if you are in your car.........best is by bike or boat If you are planning to attend, please let me know so we can have enough snacks, drinks, etc available.
