Charles Claypool and I did some armoring at KC today in 3 spots. These are before and after shots of the section leading from Wildwood to Keg next to Wash. road This second area is just beyond the 3 span bridge The third was a single tile. Many thanks to Jimmy Culpepper who supplied the refractory bricks. We used 14 altogether. Each was 16" x 20" and weighed about 50 pounds.

1st question: How does Charles stay clean laying armor in mud I'd be coated Top - Bottom.... before 2nd brick layed down.... Not a spec on Charles' jeans or shirt 2nd comment: When I did this ride few weeks ago - crossed Washington Rd., excited to hit the Keg entrance - speed up over the road, off the embankment - splat - that initital R/W wet spot sprayed more gook than anywhere on the whole ride - and it was almost invisible beneath the soggy grass....... or I was in O2 depletion and couln't see - likely....... Work looks good - hope R/W mowing won't tear it up ?

I made up for Charles - I was covered in mud when we were done.
Road crews mow I think twice annually. We embedded the bricks so that the equipment wheels will easily ride over them. The brush/grass is cut pretty high so no danger from revolving blades.
