34.8lbs for a 19"....shoot me in the face. And their first line "Airborne has a history of quality and performance." - they just opened shop last year. There was another Airborne back in the day, but the modern Airborne is a completely different company. Decent spec for the money I guess...but...nearly 35lbs?? No bike shop behind it to take care of warranty issues if you have them, free tuneups, etc....no thanks. Like anything else, YMMV. For a ride review, google 2007 Iron Horse Yakuza Ojiki, it's the same frame. I bet you'd dig a 29er hardtail brianW.

All I can say is that I absolutely LOVE my Superlite. Have only had it a little over a month now and it has not let me down in any way. I got the R kit and it has the 3 x 10 XT drive train. It has changed the way I ride. It is efficient beyond belief. I find myself pedaling in the large ring most of the time, even uphill. For me thats an accomplishment as I don't have a love of climbing. The energy transfer to the rear wheel just feels so perfect on that ring. The large ring on that setup is smaller than traditional so that is partly responsible. Its a 24/32/42 setup instead of a 44 large ring. The R kit also gets you a Fox fork and Elixir 5 brakes, both good upgrades from the D kit and only slightly more. The way I figured it is if your going to spend this much on a bike why not just get the R kit as down the road these upgrades will cost you a bunch more.
Anyways, good luck Brian with your choice but thats my .02

I would say no. 34lbs is pretty darn heavy. I would take a good mid- to high-end hard-tail over a low-end full suspension any day. Now, I will add that I find a nice full-suspension way more comfortable to ride than any hard-tail (29er or not). The Superlight is a proven design and frame worthy of component upgrades over the long-haul. It will be worth the extra money.

www.gregridestrails.com/ <-----Greg is part of the Airborne crew and I have found that his is very receptive to questions about anything bike related. May be worth shooting him a PM if you're interested. I read his blog every few days and its good stuff. He posts on the singletrack forum alot too. Im very uneducated when it comes to FS, hope you find something that rocks!

Thanks guys, I highly respect your input. With 4 kids and one income money spending decisions are very big deal. I would rather take my time, plus we tend to only use cash. I was leaning in the NO direction to begin with, good componets for the price BUT the weight, no local shop, re-start up brand were all big concerns.
Thanks again.
ps I believe I already make those faces when I go into the shop.

I saw that $1500 or so Superlight the other day. Hard to beat that.
I had a first gen Superlite (1999 version) and loved it. I can only imagine it has gotten better.
