And the fact that they have closed it for 6 months of the year for the past couple of years doesn't help the condition of the trail either.

I'm not saying it isn't worth a try now but as you remember that trail was the original intended venue of the Baker's Dozen - hence the name. Many, many months of effort, letters, pleading, begging, and on and on led to final approval to do it ------------------------------------ as long as the night portion of the ride would be limited to circling the parking lot down by the pavilion for the final hours........... I was told that was all taken care of when we were allowed to have the Bakers Dozen at HKSP. I think somewhere on the form is discussion about have the Bakers Dozen at Bakers Creek. The 10% that do 90% of the work decided to having the race at Horn Creek. I had made points about having a 6 1/2 hour race. I also made the point of Bakers Creek being the Red Headed Step Child and not getting used. If we do not want this trail to be lost and forgotten.I think that having the Bakers Dozen at Bakers Creek will bring people to the trail. Many people will come to town and train and also just to pre ride the course. I think it is a perfect venue with out standing facilities. That would bring more racers to the Bakers Dozen.

Let's bring it up in the meeting tomorrow - there is a new race committee chairing this Baker's Dozen - can't remember how Horn Creek was chosen or how far into the process they already are as far as commitments!

We can save Bakers Creek by having the Bakers Dozen at Bakers Creek.
Its not about the race its about saving the trail.

For what it's worth we're pretty much at the point of opening registration for BD at Lick Fork. That's where most folks want it because of the course layout, facilities, we've had it there before, etc. We've talked about all of this before: sorbacsra.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=general&thread=2093&page=1 (get ready to read through 6 pages of discussion) I do like the idea of a grassroots 6hr at Baker Creek (this is the only trail in the area I haven't ridden). There's really no need to plan anything, buy anything, no volunteers, etc. We annouce when it is. No entry fee. No awards. No official scoring or timing. Just a group of friends seeing who can ride the most laps in 6hrs. Remember the 49er ride? Something like that without the donation. Riders bring all their own supplies.

Same as always. Race date is Oct 22nd. If we get sufficient rain prior to the event we move to the rain date of Oct 29th. If we start the race and it begins to rain during the race, if the trail is wet enough to get damaged we stop the race.

As I remember it the last Bakers Dozen held at Lick Fork was a week or so after a "prescribed Burn". When the sun set the burning embers made for one of sweetest rides I have ever been privileged to participate in. Surreal to the point of "giddiness" to use bill-talk. It could not have been pulled off if it were not for the Farrows, the Allens, and countless other volunteers. Big-ups to them... Jah Rastafari

Thanks EdgeE. We were just discussing this trail, and wondering what the latest news had in store. Looks like they are still plugging along with the project.

USFS sent a scoping letter to the public about this project a few months ago. Their letter was specific to the singletrack section on their land and so is this post.
I am sure the group in the article applied for RTP funding again. If they get that funding, it should be built fairly timely after that.
