The Snake creek Gap Time trial series race # 2 is this coming Saturday up in Dalton GA. The race takes place along a section of the Pinhoti trail ( www.imba.com/epics/georgia-pinhoti-trail ), Truly an EPIC! This event is so well organized and orchestrated, riders and bikes are shuttled to the start and race back toward the Snake pit to be welcomed with hot chilli, and peach cobbler. ;D. Entry fee gets you in to both of the remaining events, worth it just for the shuttles and SAG. snake.nwgasorba.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=46&Itemid=64Bottom line is this event is TONS of fun and supports NW GA sorba. There are approximately 400 riders between the 17 mile and the 34 mile Time trials. Mingling in the tribe, checking out bikes and sharing tales of the trails, and the shared experience of THE SNAKE, just to fun! Come on out if ya can.

Man, that was just fantastic!
We woke up at 6:30, there was a heavy mist coming down...looked to be a miserable day of riding.
But by the time I started (3rd from last to start) the sun was out and it was a nice 40ish degrees! I did a much better job of pacing myself this month, and I had my sports drink this time. I had a great ride. No cramps, still felt good when I crossed the fnish line. Had to stop twice tho, somehow mud managed to get past my glasses and into my eye twice, so I stopped to take the contact out then put it back in...not fun trailside! Despite that, I still took 19mins off my Jan time, and beat my previous best by about a minute.
Despite rain all day on Friday the trail was in great shape; there so much rock there's no room for mud. The dirt road leading to the gravel FS road was a mess tho. And all the creeks had a lot more water in them than usual.
It was a great day on the bike. You've still got one more chance to go do this event this year! It's worrth going just for the shuttle NWGA-SORBA does for you.

The SCGTT really is a class act. You get three races for one price. So if something happens and you DNF you don't feel like you've wasted your time and money like if it was a one shot deal.
The TT format, staggered start and choices of distance eliminates a lot of the tire to tire and pass at all costs type racing that you have at many events.
The NW GA SORBA folks are just the friendliest around and really seem to love putting on this event. They go above and beyond to make sure everyone has a great time.
The trail is outstanding and there is no more challenging single track anywhere to be found in the Southeast. I have 5 attempts in the bag now and every time I find myself clearing more and more yet there are always tons more to clear with much I may never clear. No cruise control here.
The 17 is a BEAR and the 34 is a BEAST. Chose your challenge or poison if you prefer.
Big Kudos to the NW GA SORBA folks. They really have created a gem and a classic epic race with this event. Easy to see why they have 400 folks showing up from all over the US to race in the three coldest and wettest months of the year.
TedS rode a bit of the way with some guys from Ohio who drove 10 hours to do this race. That says it all.
Looking forward to March and with a little luck completing the 3X34 challenge. Something a little extra for up slowpokes who endure.

Couldn't agree with you guys more NWGA SORBA put on an amazing event. The misery factor was way down this time around. Winter shoes made all the difference in the world. ;D Although as it turns out "waterproof" is a relative term. I had a blast rode most of the race with the same group of guys we passed each other back and forth, give and take all day long. Still haven't been riding as much as I'd like but got in a few good training rides this past month and felt much better and improved by 11 minutes. The creeks were raging the crossings were definitely fun and really really really COLD! Splashed through a few a little to fast and had to deal with ice cold swamp ass for a few miles until I heated back up again. All told it was GREAT day in the woods Hope to see more CSRA folks out there next time.

The misery factor was way down this time around. Winter shoes made all the difference in the world. ;D Although as it turns out "waterproof" is a relative term. LOL, the last creek crossing on the 17, I was behind someone, they made it no problems. I followed, took their line (I thought). It was about a foot or so deep, and too murky to see the bottom. Well, apparently I found a boulder with my front wheel. Bike stopped, I almost fell over. Luckily I was able to get my foot down and catch myself. Now, my shoes are waterproof. But not when the top of the shoe is several inches under water...so that shoe filled with water, and it couldn't drain out anywhere. I poured it out a minute later when I made my first stop to clean out my contact ;D
