Today: Fourteen trees cut out in section 3. The trail was gone, but is back again. Knocked out a lap afterward and it was smooth sailing. Yes, Horn has more pine straw and leaves (and debris) than other trails that are used more often, but it is still a delight. MD

Hmmm...high winds forecast for Wednesday and Thursday. Sounds like we may end up with some more trees down just before the BD. If anyone rides Thursday or Friday, and finds this to be the case, post up or give me a call if you have my number. That, or stop by the RV on site 8 and let us know.
The way the pines have been falling recently, the race would resemble more of a cyclocross race if we don't remove them.

When will you be camping? I am planning on heading there Friday am. (furlough day) Work at Paine Saturday so no racing for me

As of 8:00 last night there were three trees down.
The first one down is in section one right on top of the rock feature by the main parking lot.
The second is in section four. That one is a dead pine that is standing straight up in the center of the trail leaning against another tree. Looks like it broke at the bottom and fell and got hung in another tree and the bottom rotated around into the trail.
The last one is in section 5 on the border of the clear cut and the select cut.

Thanks for the info. YetiChick bought me a Dakine Builder's Pack the other week, and my 362 was a tad too large to fit, sooo...a trip to the local Stihl dealership netted me an MS250 with 18" blade. I hope to get out there early enough Friday to sling some chips with my new saw.
Guy at the saw shop said that he had never seen a relatively compact backpack designed around a saw. He was extremely impressed and interested in the setup.
BW, we are taking the RV out there tonight, and are staying in it Fri and Sat nights. Gotta work Friday.

as mentioned 3 trees down. correction on locations. section 1 on the rock garden, section 3 (dead one standing) in the area with all the dead pines, section 4, I managed to remove on in the switch backs but there is one that is sticking out onto the trail.
Heads up, I rode this morning and section 2, the sun/glare was in my eyes going to the first bridge.

Daniel and Paul went out there this afternoon to take care of the trees - haven't returned yet so I'm sure they are getting things taken care of.

If you haven't ridden Horn Creek yet, now is the time! It is in AMAZING condition after the race, it's just rails. The tread is well ridden in, no slippery leaves or pinestraw (as long as you stay in the trail).
