I got this in an email today from a friend of mine. Thought I'd share it on here and see if anyone has done something like this.
Below is a recipe for a home made sport drink. This recipe appeared in the March 2010 edition of Mountain Bike Action.
MBA Sport Drink (or my name Recession Proof Sport Drink)
Mix the following in a 2 quart container
5/8 cup sugar
¾ tablespoon Morton Lite salt
1 package of unsweetened Kool-Aid for flavor
Fill container with water and mix
An 8 oz serving delivers: 14g carbohydrate (6%), 103 mg sodium, 121 mg potassium, 53 calories
As a comparison, an 8 oz serving of Gatorade delivers:
14 g carbohydrate (5.9%), 110 mg sodium, 30 mg potassium, 52 calories
The MBA drink has a little more potassium and costs way less.
Enjoy,

I'll have to give that recipe a shot, sounds simple enough. You know, the original Gatorade is a "home brew" of sorts. It's development is something that I've always found interesting. From Wiki: ...medical researchers at the University of Florida, designed the original Gatorade mixture in 1965. The Gators football coach, Ray Graves, was frustrated with the performance of his players during summer practices and asked the team doctor for his insight. The doctor referred the matter to Cade and his research team, who formulated a mixture of water, sodium, sugar, potassium, phosphate and lemon juice. The drink is now known as Gatorade in honor of the football team, the Gators. The football team credits Gatorade with their first Orange Bowl win over the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in 1967.....
... The original Gatorade contained water, sucrose (table sugar) and glucose-fructose syrups, citric acid, fish oil, sodium chloride (table salt), sodium citrate, monopotassium phosphate, and flavoring/coloring ingredients; some Gatorade flavorings use brominated vegetable oil as a stabilizer... when there is orange juice (or pine apple) I fill the bottle with some ice juice and water it down a little. works good. have a feeling if i added a pinch of salt wouldn't hurt.
I will have to try seenvics recipe
