Freedom is not free but payed for by sweat, tears, blood and lives of the men and women who serve in the United States Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corp. and Coast Guard. Thank you to all who have served this great country. And may God protect and be with the ones that are serving now and their families.

+1. Thanks for all they have done and continue to do. A pic of my freshman year roommate, in one of Sadam's palaces in Iraq. Have't seen him in 5 years, facebook keeps us in touch. He's been all over...Germany, Kuwait, Iraq, he was in Korea last I heard. He's coming home soon I think.

And I think it is much harder on veterans these days - my father (90) and his brother (88) who both served in WWII (and my Dad also did two tours in Vietnam) took the Freedom Honor Flight to Washington DC to tour the WWII memorial as well as other areas around the capital earlier this year. It was so touching for them and they felt so honored. But I know my Dad felt the reception for the Vietnam vets was very different than from when they returned from WWII. Now with the US involved in so many ongoing conflicts that have spread across so many years it seems that it has almost become numbing for the American people. I think we've now been in Afghanistan longer than we were in Vietnam. It's as if there are so many areas of involvement the average American doesn't even know when they start, how long they are going on and if and when they will end. And of course I don't want to get anything started with this post - just want to join in with the rest of you in saying thank you to all those veterans (plenty of them are out there on the trails) who proudly serve or have served!
