Check this out. This guy built, rode and raced this bike from what I can tell for a while. Very cool and apparently somewhat durable too. Just thought it was cool and wanted to see who was going to build one ;D www.bmeres.com/bambooframe.htm

You mentioned Calfee Design. He makes carbon fiber frames and also does a fantastic job of repairing them. I broke a chain stay on my Cervelo R3 and replacement cost under Cervelo's "crash program" was $2200. Calfee repaired it better than new for around $400. Through the years he has repaired hundreds of carbon frames and has an excellent reputation. Calfee has been written up in several bike magazines but mostly for his bamboo frames. He mainly developed the idea so poor folks in underdeveloped countries could build their own bikes from a no-cost material available locally. But he also sells bamboo frames bult in his shop. Just don't try riding one in Panda country!! www.calfeedesign.com/

Calfee repaired it better than new for around $400. How exactly do they repair carbon frames? Do they just wrap the area with more carbon?
