If you want to do something to help out at FATS but are not sure what to do or exactly how to do it. I may have something, over the summer, before hunting season, I moved about 80 bricks as close a I could to that big mud hole on the upper Skinny loop. Now that hunting seasons over, we need to get this material from the edge of the woods to the side of the trail. What I'm thinking is, two people can move 4 to 6 bricks at a time. If all the time you and a buddy have is a half hour, and y'all could move just a few, great. The bricks are located in the field with the marble monument. Turn onto the dirt road past the parking lot, drive past the right hand turn and the next driveway to right is the field with the monument. It's marked "no vehicles". Walk into that field, on the far side of the clearing, to the right of the monument, along the tree line there is a stack of bricks. Also there are two steel rods for carrying the bricks, slide a rod through 2 or 3 bricks and two people can carry them "KING TUT" style. the route to the trail is flagged and there is the start of a pile near the ditch. Please remember to return the rods. I'll get it done sooner or later, but I figured this may get it done sooner.
thanks, Jimmy

Meet at the main parking lot at 12:30pm, ready to go.
Spoke with JC and he says there are about 100 bricks to move. Let's get it done. JC has big plans for the coming year!

Fifty bricks got moved into place this afternoon. Shout out goes to imnav8r, MarkY, dsquaredmsquared and his son Michael. The parking lot was occupied with probably a dozen vehicles. Only a couple were there for any type maintenance.
JC is on a roll here, and we need to follow his lead. He's a quiet type, but he has SORBA/CSRA's best interests at heart, is a hard worker, a behind the scenes asset, and we need to assist him when he asks for it.
Just sayin'...

I must have just missed you guys.
I put 12 bricks in the first long muddy spot going back to the parking lot. Buried them at tread level. Could have put more there, but wasn't sure how many the big spot needs. There is another spot that could be armored really close to your pile of bricks, a little closer to the parking lot than the spot I did.
There are maybe 25 or so bricks left behind the cemetery.
This entire area isn't nearly as wet this year as it has been in every other year. The "spot" has gotten hub deep every year but this year. It is wet, but you can still ride thru it this year. The place I armored today used to be wet for 40-50 feet instead of the 10 or so feet I had to armor today. We've had plenty of rain this year. Just an observation, but a good trend I hope to find elsewhere. What do you think?
Whoever is making the muddy spots narrow with the branches - that is a good idea.
How is the spot on the Brown Wave armored with native rock riding? It is near the rock garden that has the tree that is hanging above the trail.

Actually, there were 42 bricks (and pieces of 1/2 of a brick) remaining at the cemetery...but who's counting?
All 42.5 bricks and 4 metal rods are now located trail side, at the end of the cemetery shortcut. We weren't sure whether they were needed upstream or downstream so this seemed like the best spot.

I'm still waiting on the boiled peanuts!! Looks like MD dangled the bait out there and then reneged!
BTW, can you find a link forthose zoic pants you talked about? I have googled high, low, and upside down with no luck.
Thanks. (and thanks for moving the last of the brick. I've been sitting on my butt all day and would have been happy to come help finish up)

Sorry about the peanuts. We were at Paul's house for a meeting Saturday morning and I barely made it to the parking lot on time. Truth be known, the peanuts I was going to bring yesterday are being eaten right now. YC's sister came over this afternoon and we are eating peanuts, cooking chicken, tending to a roaring fire and watching some football... MD

hunting season is just now over but it's been very cold, those two things help keep people away. I don't think we have had the traffic yet to get this hole as deep as it's goiong to be. History is bound to repeat itself. When the rains come in Feb. and March, then the next day it's a high on 50 to 60 degrees, that when it's gonna get bad. but, that's just what I think. Thanks for the hard work. You guys set the bar REAL HIGH
