After riding FATS today and noticing a lot of places that it appeared the other riders either wiped out or came close after hitting come pine straw, I was wondering what is the best method of handeling your bike in it?
I tend to avoid the brakes in the stuff, pretend I am back north riding in the snow.

i'd love to read about this myself.. we went out this afternoon and I had a heck of a time from keeping the front wheel from sliding from under me.. and also while climbing I couldnt find a "sweet" spot to put my weight on.. I was either loosing rear traction or lifting in the front..

For climbing in loose stuff (pinestraw, sand, whatever) I run one bigger gear than I normally would, that way it's too hard to burn out.
Other than that, my best advice is to stay on the center of the trail; it stays fairly cleaned off from people riding. But, all the pinestraw that gets pushed off the trail piles up on the sides, and if you get in that, well, good luck!
