I doubt any of you know anything about this but-
my wife has had it unbelievably tough over the last several years medically and have we ever met some worthless healthcare people. I've complained for years of the poor quality care we've more often than not received.
On behalf of the staff that performed today's procedure on my wife-
she was diagnosed with a lung AVM (Arterio Venous Malformation) and HHT (the genetic disorder that causes AVM's) and had the AVM embolized (sp?) today. Below is a copy of an email that I sent to family and medical staff.
quote:Previous medical procedures:
1. The staff always forgot to administer Kim's antibiotic for her MVP condition.
2. The staff usually didn't have some medical information, or bloodwork results, and the procedure was always late.
3. The Doctor seldom, with the exception of her oncology surgeon, ever came in to greet her and NEVER spent more than a few minutes answering questions and most certainly NEVER made sure his staff had already answered those questions.
4. The Nurses always seemed rushed, bothered, or impatient with questions or conversation and were seldom pleasant (chemo nurses are the exception)
5. Something always went wrong during prior procedures which would result in ridiculous bruising, unusual and unanticipated pain, additional medication, and additional non-compensated visits back to the doctors or compensated but painful additional procedures.
6. Insurance coding has been botched more times than I recall resulting in tremendous additional cost to our family.
I CANNOT SAY IT LOUD ENOUGH!
MEDICAL COLLEGE OF GEORGIA ROCKS!!!!
1. We went in expecting the worse, based on prior experience.
2. We went in prepared, with medication in tow (in case they forgot again).
3. We went in with an attitude.
4. The staff was AMAZING, we didn't have to lift a finger.
5. They forgot NOTHING, overlooked NOTHING, and were the most PREPARED staff I've ever seen.
6. Medication was ready upon walking in the door.
7. IV requirements for her MVP were already in place (filtered).
8. 4 separate staff members came in and went over the entire procedure and told the truth, NO misleading, NO sugar coating.
9. They allowed us to go into the OR with Kim while they prepped her, music playing (Kim loves Bon Jovi and they played it for her during the procedure), and only after everything was prepped did they kindly ask us to leave.
10. The Surgeon came in after prep and made sure that ALL on his staff had gone over everything with us before the procedure began and made sure ALL questions and answers were COMPLETELY understood before asking us to leave the OR.
11. Insurance was in place and filled out correctly before the procedure and upon Kim asking for assurance, our insurance company actually complemented MCG for their aptitude. We were floored. UNBELIEVABLE. And to top it off-the medical staff called on Friday of last week stating that they had filed ALL paperwork accordingly and there should be NO surprise charges.
Folks-
We've seen more hospitals and doctors offices in the last 4 years than I dare say we'd seen combined in 25 years and MCG beats them ALL. If you must undergo an important procedure-do yourself a favor and look into MCG.
To the point-
Kim feels great, her color and breathing is better already and this is the first time I've ever seen her come out of the hospital with a smile on her face. The recovery room nurses called she and I after we'd left just to check up on her. That never happened before.
It was a good day and tomorrow will be better because of that staff.
Rant over-
Submitted purely because after fussing for years, its damn nice to be treated well. Thanks for reading.
