My son is getting into the MB scene and wants to go clipless. I have a set of Crank Bros mallets but no cleats. They can be tedious to clip out of in a hurry (which is why I changed to spd's), so I would like for him to try them before committing.Does anyone have a used set of cleats with some life left on them that you would part with cheap? Or loan for a week or two?

Going clipless can be a struggle but is well worth it.
Going clipless with old cleats and pedals is way more difficult to catch onto the "in and outs" of what you gotta do.
I'd take clipless pedals over a front shock. And would heavily advise anyone to change to clipless pedals.
The learning curve is easier to master with a pedal/cleat combo that has a crisp engage/disengage feeling. Often, old pedals and cleats have lost their crispness but the rider who used them is use to them.
A new rider trying clipless for the first time will struggle more with used stuff than with new. I have had a few used bikes and encourage the use of used stuff. Just not clipless pedals.
And, the place to learn is a nice grassy field, not on a group ride with a bunch of hammerheads. It is much softer than pavement and usually safer to fall into than a trail in the woods. Just find a nice grassy spot, and ride around doing nothing but clipping in and clipping out. Once you learn to never come to a complete stop while still clipped in, your 90% of the way there.

I have some new cleats he could borrow to try it out. Or I could throw the new cleats on my shoes and he could have the old ones.

Thanks (the pedals I have are almost new, so if he can get in and out of them without busting his arse like I did TOO many times, then he has a free set of pedals)
