The seasoned Fats trailhead is being called South Trailhead now . I guess in anticipation of a North Trailhead ? Has the North Trail head been built ? Or location decided ?

Built - no.
Location will be the bottom of the Big Rock Loop. There is an old timber deck site there and already disturbed. I think they (USFS) has to get it cleared out first.
I wanted the Firetower itself to be the parking area. But the USFS shot that down, and then asked us NOT to park there.

I wish they would put it on Woodlawn, visible to the highway. I worry that scumbags will break in to vehicles parked off the FS road where, like cockroaches, they can do their dirty work under cover. I've heard that is an issue at Bartram/West Dam parking.

I see it as a mixed bag. If it were off Woodlawn more people would know it's there. If it's on the FS road, lots of folks will never know about it.

Someone let me know when something transpires . Everyone I talk to have quite riding the two new trails because the bit of road to get there eats up their tires . Thanks !

Someone let me know when something transpires . Everyone I talk to have quite riding the two new trails because the bit of road to get there eats up their tires . Thanks ! Weaksauce. This has to be in the top three of the most ridiculous things I have ever read on this forum. Maybe any forum. On top of being utterly ridiculous....the pavement is .5 mile and the gravel is .8 mile. Round trip we are talking about 2.6 miles. The SMC had 22ish miles of pavement and about 16ish miles of gravel. I don't recall riders complaining about tires being "eaten up." I ride from my house to the FATS and back all the time. 5 miles round trip on pavement and gravel. My tires are fine. From another angle of ridiculousness. There is plenty of parking along FS 661. I usually see a car or more parked where the parking is going to be. BTW...the parking lot has been cleared as of July 3. Not sure when the gravel goes in, but the lot is cleared.

I can not believe me and a couple friends were planning on attending the upcoming SORBA meeting in hopes of possibly joining, on the frequent suggestions of John Liebe and recent Jimmy Culpepper . Being blatantly insulted as posting one of the 3 worst posts , I have more pride than to show up at the meeting or to try to suggest to any of my fellow bikers ( many ) to do so in the future . Thanks for setting me in my place . Charles Garner
edit: corrected the spelling of my last name. (JL)

I can't believe you have ridden these trails as long as you have and haven't joined already. You are simply taking what SORBA is giving you.
I didn't insult you. I called your post weak, well, because it was.

I can not believe me and a couple friends were planning on attending the upcoming SORBA meeting in hopes of possibly joining, on the frequent suggestions of John Leibe and recent Jimmy Culpepper . Being blatantly insulted as posting one of the 3 worst posts , I have more pride than to show up at the meeting or to try to suggest to any of my fellow bikers ( many ) to do so in the future . Thanks for setting me in my place . Charles Garner give me a break. he didn't insult you or your post, just what it said. bill is friendly guy, and i am sure is just tired of all the whining about FATS. We are very lucky to have gem like this, and seenvic is greatly responsible and dedicates a lot of time to this board and the area. he was just illustrating that it is not that far on the road, and there has always been plenty of places to park. insulting you would have been more along the lines of "man up and peddle, you vag" ;D there are many reasons to join sorba, but not joining a organization that does a lot of good because of one guy? come on. if i avoided dealing with douche bags everyday, it would be a lonely world.

Lighten up "Francis". I did not think that seenvic's post was offensive, just merely truthful. I have parked on fs661, and I have peddled the road to the two other trails, as well as numerous roads when the trails have been wet, and I got over a years (1 year and 2 months, with the SMC at 1 year) worth of riding out of my tires. As a matter of fact, I just put new "meats" on my ride about 30 minutes ago. If your tires are wearing out that easily, it might not be the road, it might be the quality of your tires.

WOW is all I can say.....OK maybe not. As I am not a SORBA member I do my best to talk up the good folks of SORBA that I have met and have followed this forum for a while. I am a manager at the Sports Authority and when someone is in my bike department I talk up the area trails and the "group" that takes care of them. So far everyone I have met has been class. To not join (I know I have not either) for the reason you stated is just short sighted. Trust me, there are more folks out there that I will not agree with than there are that I will agree with. But that is life.
Anyways, I am rambling and as I am not a staple of the biking community by any means I know I am happy to have met the few folks from SORBA and this forum so far.
Now as far as the taking what SORBA has given......WELL two things: 1) I am glad you do what you do so that we in this area have this great resource of trails. I am not a member but I do take a moment and move stuff off of the trails if it needs to be or give a heads up on here if I can not do it myself. 2) Thanks for the guilt trip LOL Have to consider joining one of these days I guess if that keeps up
Anyways...my two cents
Tom

if i avoided dealing with douche bags everyday, it would be a lonely world. That's in my top 3 favorite posts on the board so far. And come on, the tire wear excuse is weak sauce.

Gotta add my two pennies. I don't care for sarcasm either, and I will say that a couple of folks in this organization can be tart tongued. However, for the tremendous good that is done by the active members a a little personality conflict is small potatoes. If only 25% of the people who bike on local trails were to join up and contribute a little time and money... WOW!

I love the tart-tongued description because I think at times that can apply I think sometimes folks react quickly to something that is said and they don't pump the brakes before responding back in a less than tactful way. Everyone has an opinion and they don't mind voicing them at times on this forum. However I'm sure if you read the forum enough you know there have been tons of truly ridiculous things entered on this forum so your observation about knobbies on the road probably wouldn't register at all. My hubby does not like riding his knobbies on the road either. SORBA-CSRA is part of the great biking community in this area and sometimes we scrap like cats and dogs and get under each others's skin but by and large this is a tremendous group of people to be a part of. These are folks who are tremendously generous, fun and have put in a lot of hard work so we can all enjoy a great network of trails to ride. And the others are right, you won't like everyone you meet - we have about 150 members - but to be honest I truly like all of the ones I've gotten to know (however there are some real characters in the bunch). Come join to help us have a stronger voice - come ride with us - come work with us and be a part of it all. You will be glad you did!
