I am sure it will be.
It looked like the bottom was going to drop out in Clarks Hill about 7:30AM. I am in Aiken now, and it is raining pretty hard here, but just started.
If FATS gets an inch of rain, give it a 24 hour rest. If it gets two inches, give it a 48 hour rest.
And watch the home page.

FATS is open now.
We did not close FATS. We just said it was wet and give it 24 hours to dry. Look at the date above that message and go from there.
At some point, people are going to have to use common sense. We won't close FATS outside of winter time.
There are two main issues with FATS and rain. It can pour at FATS and be beautiful in (fill in the blank) Aiken, Evans, Martinez, Harlem, Grovetown etc.....We want to use the site to inform people about FATS being wet. Also to let folks coming from out of town who may not know it rained hard at FATS.
We can't monitor FATS 24/7/365 with open/closed status. During the winter months, we have to as conditions can get really bad. But during this time of year, we just want to put out information and let folks use common sense. If it doesn't work, we can rethink it.
Again, FATS is open now. Go ride it.

Bill Maybe we could have a thread that is dedicated to rainy days and letting us out of towners know that it has rained at FATS. It's hard for us to gauge when the last rain was at FATS. For instance, if i referred to the website, I would have thought it rained yesterday. Tom

I'd be game for a thread or series of threads. I will answer/post to them as I am available.
I understand your situation, but without coming across as a smartass.....it says last updated 5/8/09. So on 5/12/09, you would think it rained last night?
Start the threads on FATS status as you need info. I will post to them.
Edit to add: I don't have the ability to edit/change the homepage. I'd update it more often if I did.

Rode Skinny and Brown Wave today. Fast and dry even with the recent rains of a few days ago. I only encountered a couple of spots that had soft mud. All the other low spots had moist firm dirt and of course the high spots are dry and fast. There was no standing water on these two trails today.
I can't say anything about the rest of the trails out there but if it doesn't rain too much overnight, the trails should be in good shape for tomorrow.
After SMC and sometime before it gets too hot, we'll need a work party to keep the vegatation cut back.
Be safe!

Is the amount of recent rainfall FATS has had available anywhere so that we know whether it is OK to ride or not? The forecast indicates rain Thursday night but I'm not sure where to find out how much actually falls.
