I've been checking out all of the mountain biking trails around here, and appreciate the directions, descriptions, and maps on the SORBA-CSRA site. Can someone who's biked ORA either put a description on the site or just reply to this to give me some idea of what those trails are like, difficulty level, length, etc. Also, what does ORA stand for?

I think ORA is Operations Recreation Assoc or maybe Area- owned by SRS in some fashion. There are some baseball fields, a walking trail around the lake, and even an "observatory" (park near it for the bike ride). I have heard this area is to be sold to a developer, but that may be a vicious rumor. ORA is about 5 miles (takes me about 45 min but I am slow) and is a fun trail- very twisty/turny either uphill or down (short grades). Only real technical challenges are a few steep uphill sections, depending on which direction you ride. I would not take a beginner on this trail. This trail is the best wet weather trail in the CSRA because of its sandy base. With the drought, it may have a few spots of ugly sand, but it will still be worth the trip. For your first time there, make sure to take a map due to possible confusion right around the ball fields. Or let me know any weeknights you ride and we (a group I ride with- they're all faster) can meet you.

Thanks for the info! Are there any maps of the trail itself? I'll be out there tomorrow at about 830 or 9am. I don't do any evening rides right now, I play all day and then I spend the evenings with my wife. I do ride weekends too, I don't know if you or your group rides then or not. After I start school in July I may do an evening ride during the week.

The ORA has been purchased by Aiken County and a land trust group. From the article in the Aiken Standard they plan on leaving the trail and making some improvements to the park.
