So just how much trail work was accomplished in 2008? I am talking about someone picking up a tool and heading out on a trail to clear it, lop it, build it, repair it, armor it, etc.
How many individuals worked? Well, let me tell you. We had 61 different people work on our trails last year, for a total of 716.5 hours of trail work. Many of them worked on more than one trail. (This does not include volunteers for events).
The work was divided up as follows (total number of volunteers, number of days the trail was worked on, total hours):
Canal Trail: 2 workers, 1 work day, 5 hours.
Turkey Creek: 4 workers, 3 work days, 23 hours.
Horn Creek: 3 workers, 5 work days, 24 hours.
FATS: 43 workers, 11 work days, 244.75 hours
Keg Creek: 4 workers, 5 work days, 51 hours
Hickory Knob: 13 workers, 4 work days, 44 hours
Wine/Turkey Big Mowathon: 13 workers, 1 work day, 78.75 hours
Bartram: 22 workers, 19 work days, 212 hours
Mistletoe: 3 workers, 7 work days, 26 hours
Modoc: 2 workers, 1 work day, 8 hours
These figures do not include people who worked and didn’t turn in a volunteer sheet, nor any work done by the Greenwood crew on the Long Cane Horse Trail.
Much of our trail work is spread out and done without being advertised as an official work party. When work needs done, some members just call each other and get the work done. It is obvious that a lot of work goes on behind the scenes. Nice job SORBA/CSRA!

Thanks for the report. That is good to know.
The scary part is that of the 61 people, if 10-12 key people "got busy with life" and had to quit working on the trails, the 716.5 hours would be about 100 hours. Actually, would be closer to zero hours as the key 10-12 people organize most of the work that gets reported.
I'd agree that there is alot more work being done than the hours in this report. Mosovich and others at the Canal go unreported. Much of the work done at FATS goes unreported.
61 people in a year....less than a good day of riders at FATS.
Please help us out and work 1-2 days in 2009. You'll probably learn something and feel good about it.

Here's why I work on the trails.. well, at least the canal trail.. I ride there 99% of the time I ride MTB, I live in National Hills, it's a no brainer with 2 small kids.... 1. It's very rewarding.. 2. I like the fact I can actually see the difference that is being made... 3. I'm giving back something to the community and to local mtbing.. 4. I take my son from time to time, he loves it! We take a picnic lunch and get to spend quality time together, yeah, he's 3, but I can't tell you how much fun we had the other Monday.. He picks up sticks and such and I cut stuff, it's a team.. 5. Why not, I use the trail, shouldn't I do something to help out the trail.. 6. It's a great stress reliever.. (I can go whack the heck out of something and no one gets hurt)..
