This is an off-road century in NW GA, SE TN. Saturday April 21st. Has anybody given it any thought? I'm making it a training goal in case I win the lottery for Leadville in August. (if not, the Leadville Silver Rush in July). I can only imagine it would be a he-- of a lot more tolerable, er.....fun, with friends.

Or you can do the SORBA-CSRA supported Bakers Dozen on Saturday April 21, and the Best Dam Ride on Sunday to best support local events. Think globally, act locally. PS Leadville is so deadville. It's so 1990's

Well, considering this is the SORBA/CSRA board, and you are starting a thread that will be read by mainly SORBA/CSRA members, and a lot of us either heavily volunteer our time or participate in SORBA/CSRA activities, and add the fact that our biggest fundraiser of the year is the Baker's Dozen endurance race on, guess what, the 21st of April...No, I do not think many here on these webpages consider the Cohutta 100. We do not take the Baker's Dozen for granted in this chapter.
Why not take this to a more neutral forum area...i.e. the main SORBA website. You will probably get more friends to respond.

Riding solo in the BD will produce more than 100 miles. At least if you have much endurance.
Why wait in a lottery for singletrackless Leadville. Sign up for the SM100 (www.mountaintouring.com) and get a 100 miler in that has some singletrack.

buckethead, having done the leadville 100 in 96, i can tell you for a fact that if you go out to tower and ride 100 miles of dirt roads out there you will have basically done the leadville 100, just without the alltitude factor. save your money and go do something else. p.s. not all of it is even dirt road, about ten miles is asphault. If i had to go and do it now, i would do it on my cross bike!

bculp, Thanks for the insight on Pb-ville, between your info and the $220 entry, I may opt for another event. It looked attractive because by then I'll be living in TX. Can you explain, "out to tower and ride 100M of dirt roads there"?
Ted, Have you ridden Leadville 100? Silver Rush 50? If so, please share your experiences and thoughts on those events.
If the bridge is fixed and the BD goes on I'll certainly entertain the idea of going solo till dark vs Cohutta. (I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around the idea of MANY, laps around a flat circuit (8 miles?) versus one big-butt 100M loop w/climbs in Cohutta). I'd be happy to help on another work party to fix the bridge but work takes me out of town.

buckethead, I don't like laps either so Cohutta sounds good to me. The thought of going around in circles for 13 hours is not one that I gladly entertain. OTOH, I'd like to do the BD and support SORBA-CSRA because I think the trails there are worth supporting. For now its a toss up.

Woog, Go ride the Cohutta. And come swing a tool sometime down here. I know you've threatened to a time or two. :-)

Woog, Are you still thinking about Cohutta? I'm 90% sure that's where I'll be that weekend.

Woog, Are you still thinking about Cohutta? I'm 90% sure that's where I'll be that weekend. Nope. I've realized there's no way I can be ready for that volume of riding by mid April. I'm registered for the BD instead.
