The USDA Forest Service has released a revised plan for Nantahala and Pisgah forests. You may recall giving input a few months back on this plan. The plan has now been revised, according to the comments received, and it's out for public comment once again. PLEASE look at these maps! www.fs.usda.gov/goto/nfsnc/nprevisionThere are areas where we mountain bike that are being considered for wilderness, and we need to let the USFS know that we want them left open for mountain biking. PLEASE use this link to enter courteous, thoughtful comments, to read the documents for the plan, and to see the dates for public meetings: www.fs.usda.gov/detail/nfsnc/home/?cid=fseprd476059PLEASE share this message!

FATS is officially CLOSED.
We've had over 2" of rain in the last 48 hours and a cumulative total of over 5.6" inches of rain in November, so the US Forest Service has enacted an official closure at FATS. You can check our homepage, the USFS Call Before You Haul Hotline (803-561-4025), our Twitter Feed @fatsupdate, or our Facebook page for status updates.
Please respect the official closure and thank you for your support.

We had 3 inches of rain over two days, it will be a few days before the trails are dry enough to ride, please do not ride the trails until we can get someone in to assess the condition. This time of year with the foliage pulling in less water and cooler temperatures it will take longer for the trails to dry.

As a result of Hurricane Patricia, we have had steady rain over Monday and Tuesday and into early morning today. Please do not ride the wet trails, they are going to need at least a couple of days to dry out (impacted by the cooler temperatures, growing season slowing, overcast skies).
We will have someone check the condition of the trail before the weekend.
Thank you!

The bike wash station is now complete and ready to go. Chuck met a young visitor from Atlanta and explained how the bike wash rack works (he was trying out the new "pull up bar")

Another piece of the Petersburg Trailhead in place and ready to go....the donation box! The front of the SORBAcsra donation box wasn't even painted when a local mountain biker made the first donation at Petersburg trailhead. All donations collected by SORBAcsra at Petersburg stay with SORBAcsra and are earmarked for maintenance and improvements on Bartram trail.

Check out the new bike wash station at the Petersburg Trailhead! Why would you need it? Even though most people know not to ride the trails when they are wet, on the west side of Bartram there are some active water crossings so it is still easy to pick up mud on your bike and even after the trails are dry enough to ride there can still be some wet or muddy spots along this trail. That wood the bike seats are hooked over will soon be replaced by the permanent piece.

We are very sad to report the passing of Andy Jordan of Andy Jordan's Bicycle Warehouse. Andy's many contributions to the CSRA cycling community spans many decades. I have no doubt we will be hearing from a lot of people who have favorite stories to share about Andy and the way he changed their lives. Thank you Andy, you will be missed by so many. Was talking to a friend today who has known Andy for many, many years. He commented that Andy was a pioneer in the cycling community before it was cool. Looking at the Andy Jordan's Bicycle Warehouse website tonight I noticed that someone (most likely Drew) had posted Ride in Peace. That is the perfect sentiment for a man like Andy Jordan.... ride on Andy! Here is a link to the obituary with information about the funeral services> Andy Jordan Our sincere condolences to the Jordan family, the crew of AJBW and all who loved him as a friend.

Another amenity in place up at the Petersburg Trailhead>The bike repair station at Petersburg trailhead has been installed. One heavy duty pump, almost any tool you might need for simple repairs, and, if necessary, a QR code to get instructions. Thanks for making this happen Andy Jordan's Bicycle Warehouse.
Although he didn't look convinced when taking the pictures, this repair station is Korben approved! And I know Korben's dad so the repair station would not have been christened by Korben ; )
Still have plenty of time but don't forget to sign up on Survey Monkeyif you plan to join us for the cookout!

Was out this weekend at the Petersburg Trailhead and had a chance to try out the great new changing room. It even has an electrical outlet so if you need to add a light for changing after a nightride or just wanted to blow your hair dry, you are covered! Less than 3 weeks until BikeFest and the grand opening of the Petersburg Trailhead!

Looking so forward to using the permanent firepit at the Petersburg Trailhead for the upcoming BikeFest. We'll bring the marshmallows you just need to bring your skewer (or stick)! This is the perfect time of year for a nice warm fire in the evening.
