Parked at the new parking area today. Got some riding in. Horn was in excellent shape. A little standing water. No mud. I believe there were three non-riders down, and two or three riders over the trail.
Great trail. Great riding.

Rode Horn Creek this Sunday evening just before dark ;D, and there were a few tire tracks on the trail . The trail is in good shape except for section 4, there are a few trees that need clearing & a few questionable pines. As I passed the point where the Lick Fork trail tails off, I wondered what happened to the old trail, that would take you from that point, up a serious hill (for our parts), and back to the parking spot near the gravel/pavement transition. I know what happened to the trail, as I kept jogging it for a few years after it stopped being maintained. I wondered why? As I recall, that all happened about the time the trail was reworked & expanded to 6 miles.

damn, i haven't thought about that old section in a long time. probably because the new climb into the parking lot is stellar - one of my favorite sections out there.
i can't even remember why we ever used that old roadbed as a trail. Nice climb up it.
But I'd agree that it's use stopped about the same time the reroutes were put in.
Bill from Jacksonville was out riding Horn Creek today - his first visit to that trail.
edit to add: I remember now. When John McCall put on the first race at Lick Fork, he found that route and made the race go up that climb, and then you came back down section 1 after you climbed it. Once it was in the race, it kinda stayed around for a few years. This is also where we got the idea to run the Bakers Dozen up the road to start the event....John McCall started his race there that way. And you turned left into section 2.....sound familar?

There is one area in section two that needs a McCleod, but I am not sure if I will get to that Saturday. The trail will be ready the Explore the Trail Ride though. Hope we get a good turnout. MD

SO and I met with Paul this Saturday at HC. We installed a new trail sign at the winter parking lot. Then I loaded up the BOB and we all headed out. Ended up removing at least six trees, left one rider, and constructed a small rock garden/path to repair some damage created by the logging crews.
Ready for the upcoming Explore the Trail ride this weekend.

Thanks for all the work you guys do! I wont be able to make the Explore the Trails this weekend though, going back for another try at the Snake. Not sure how I'll do...last time I rode my bike was...at the last Snake!

Any work on the eroded switchback? I'd be willing to help with that fix, when the time comes.

Any work on the eroded switchback? I'd be willing to help with that fix, when the time comes. Seenvic has brought this up numerous times, and I talked to Paul about it this Saturday. I believe that when seenvic has the time, he will head up this repair. You'll be in the loop. In the meantime, it definitely hasn't gotten too bad to ride. Kinda flows, actually! MD

How is that roadbed down to it looking? That being passable would make the job pretty simple.
I can't make the ride Saturday. I'll be out of town.
