Razor, Get permission to build that stuff before you do it.
Or risk it being torn down by the people you didn't ask for permission from.
Don't want to see you waste your time and money, while I admire your desire and drive to get something done.

I appreciate the info guys, i definitely wouldn't want anything to get torn down. Who would i need to contact to see about getting the go-ahead on doing that? i've seen some of the leftover pieces of ladder bridge down there on the back side of the ponds, it looks like it was some slap-together crap somebody made out of garden ties(like a rounded 4x4) or pine logs as the stringers and supports, and pallet wood as the planking. All of which rots VERY quickly, so i can see why they demo'ed it. I stand corrected on the dirt jumps sir. I was thinking more along the lines of some nice table tops anyway, something a touch more shallow on the transitions.

I may be wrong, but I'd start with gaining some support from this chapter of SORBA. My thought is the organization already has a positive relationship with the Canal Authority (they manage the Canal trails). Instead of going to them as an individual, you take a leadership role in for this chapter on this project.
It could help legitimize the proposal, and also be a good avenue for volunteer participation.
Perhaps email the president, or come to the next meeting.
I for one, would support 100% a sane and well constructed plan to enhance the canal trails, although I admit I haven't ridden there in 4-5 years as it is just not convienient to my life.

I noticed someone had been doing some stuff off to the side.. I've just been trying to keep the "overgrowth" in ck.. That stuff grows so fast down there!! I did another hour or so last Saturday and rode Tuesday night and it was like I hadn't done that much.. I cut some big stuff out of the way to alliviate potential problems in the future.. I hope to have an hour or so Saturday to go down there again.. I can't believe you haven't been there in so long, but then again, it's like me and FATS, it's a descent drive and I'm tight on time these days..
BTW: canal trail is in SUPER shape minus the two down trees of course, but I think it's in great shape.. I would think though with this weather FATS is as well..

Razor, if you're interested I've been going to the jumps every Sunday afternoon to dig and get stuff ready for Daylight Savings. I've all but abandoned the smaller sets as the workload has gotten too heavy for one person. That said, if you want to come out, bring a flathead shovel, and I'll help you get them going. It would probably be a little easier as the jumps are basically there and you wouldn't have to start from scratch. Let me know.

I (chad) came and sat in on the last meeting, i was the long haired guy with tattoos. I want to join SORBA, but i wasn't sure if i should do it online or directly through the chapter.
"seenvic"- we've got some pretty good rough plans and dimensions already, as well as an estimated materials cost. we figure on avg. we're looking at $40- $60 per feature. my roommate(eric) and I are both finish carpenters by trade so rest assured that things WILL BE BUILT CORRECTLY. i don't believe in doing things half-assed. I believe i will email said chapter prez. and see if we can get this thing rolling. i was introduced to him at nacho's before the last meeting and i can't recall his name.
drew - i would love to come help you out bro. you gonna be there this sunday??

drew - i would love to come help you out bro. you gonna be there this sunday?? I plan on it. Hopefully it'll rain a little before the weekend to get some moisture in the dirt. My buddy Levi made an appearance this past Sunday and got the first two sets of the small line running a little better. He mostly rides street and park, but is trying to dial in his dirt skills too. Gimme a call at the store 706.724.6777 Fri or Sat and we'll see what's up.
