Got to ride at Bartram yesterday for the first time ever. Rode over towards the camp ground, then rode the new stuff. Stopped at the big dip (which I was saddened to see had already been neutered...I was wanting to try it the "hard" way), then turned around and tried (and failed) to beat the rain.
The new stuff needs wheels, but it's pretty fun. Much different than the older parts.
And oh yeah...there's a bridge in the new section that could use some handrails, or at least a ramp up onto the bridge.

Remember that this trail was originally specd out by the COE as a "beginner" trail. The new section carries the theme a little higher for those who want a little more challenge than the original 6.5 miles. The dip at the west end had a large, nasty root stump sticking out that some unsuspecting rider could have easily hit at full tilt - so I cut that out and eased the slope - should be a nice roll now. Both bridges are slated to have replacement decking at 48" plus hardware cloth. The long bridge is 25' but I don't plan on handrails. I submitted a Bill of Materials to COE earlier tonight and hope to "git 'er done" in October before the Bike Fest.

When did you cut that root out? I've ridden the trail one time, i don't remember if it was there or not.
Dale, let me know when in October, I'll help.
Another note, we are camping at Winfield this weekend, i'm gonna try Mistletoe and the Ridge road connector, any advice?

I worked the east side of the dip this past Sat.
Mistletoe: Pick up a copy of the very detailed topo map of the park (they may charge for it - it's beautifully done) and find the Rock Dam Trail - the connector takes off at the NE corner of the Rock Dam loop - should be some pink flagging - and hooks up to a dashed line on the topo (woods road) that takes you uphill, mostly, to Ridge Road. If you're coming from Ridge Road, park at the major gravel / woods roads junction just inside the brown gate. If that's locked, just park outside along the road. Once inside, stay left and go around the white gate on a woods road. Shortly before you get to water pick up the singletrack connector to your left. None of the connector is blazed but should have ample pink flagging. Haven't been there since March or so. Let me know what you find!!
