Bartram is underrated ! What a nice follow-up to FATS, spinning 12-15 mph all big ring, on a weekday, solo trail user, what a joy ! Very nice "cool down"...... with scenery !
Started at West Dam Recreation. Took the right turn onto the old forest road, leading to the signed "Lake Springs" loop. After descending the short 1/8th mile on the forest road, trail swings (wide sweep turn) to the left, back into the woods. About 1/4 mile in - there is a 12" pine across the trail - solid both ends - not broken - could not move - saw required (bow saw would get this one). But, just another hundred yards or so heading west, there is a very large pine (~ 34-38" diameter) across the trail. The tree which broke at the base - is right next to the trail - so the section to cut is near the thickest of the trunk. My trusty pen knife wasn't a match, sorry..... Small chain would take it - with cuts from both sides......
Remainder of trail clear - rode into the new extension 1 1/2 miles - but legs were calling for a return after the 28 at FATS earlier that AM.....
Met "Margaret" (and husband) at Petersburg Campground. Nice folks, had a friendly chat, collected a brochure, back to trail.....
Hope the report helps.

Yes - this helps and this type of post is one reason why this forum exists. I plan to be at Bartram this weekend and will try to get these trees out.
