SORBA-CSRA NEWS ~ June 2007
WEBSITE: sorbacsra.org
2007 SORBA-CSRA Officers:
Paul Farrow – President pfarrow@sorbacsra.org
Vice-President
Susan Collins – Secretary scollins@sorbacsra.org
Barbara Drawdy – Treasurer bdrawdy@sorbacsra.org
June Meeting! The June meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 12th - meet at Nacho Mamas for dinner at 7, the meeting will start at 7:30!! Come to the meeting there will be an exciting announcement about the addition of trail mileage in the CSRA!
Annual Fireworks Event - Saturday, July 7th – Annual afternoon ride, cookout and night ride out to view the fireworks (Thunder over Thurmond) at Hickory Knob State Park. Full details will be broadcast soon but mark your calendars this is a fun event not to be missed. The viewpoint, from the peninsula, to see the fireworks exploding out over the water is the best seat in the house! Given the drought conditions there is word that some fireworks celebrations will be canceled – we will advise as the event draws closer.
Tsali Trail Weekend - June 2 & 3rd turned out to be a great weekend for riding and trail work at Tsali in North Carolina. A bit sketchy at first since some rain did move in after weeks of drought! The IMBA crew was there and a large group of mountain bikers from a lot of SORBA chapters (we had 9 in attendance from CSRA). The food provided was terrific and the fellowship and seeing old friends from across the region made it an event not to be missed. It was amazing that with all those people and equipment we made a lot of headway but with such an extensive trail system there is a lot more work that needs to be done. Hope this becomes an annual event!
Trail Advocates – We really could use more trail advocates to report on trail conditions. I basically email this group of folks a few days before doing the newsletter to get updates on condition of the trails. They also report back at other times if they see things on the trail we need to work on or report on. This is a critical function to keep things up to date and help us determine where the next work party needs to be. If you are willing to help in this way and have a favorite trail that you ride at least a couple of times a month let me know. You’ll notice a lot of blanks on our trail reports below!
Trail News – Watch for upcoming work parties and sign on to help when you can!
