It is critical that you remain aware of the rules so we don’t have any accidents or unnecessary conflicts with other trail users. At the Bartram Lake Trail you are supposed to wear hunter’s orange from October 1st through the end of hunting season since Georgia hunters can hunt 7 days per week and can hunt that entire area the lake trail runs through. In South Carolina they cannot hunt in state parks (Hickory Knob State Park or Baker’s Creek State Park) at all but they can hunt all other public lands every day except Sunday. There are some specific times that the FATS trail will be actually closed, please respect those trail closures.
Bike Fest – We are planning the 3rd annual fall bike fest for early November. It will have the same format as previous ones with a day ride, cookout and then a night ride. These are always well-attended and a lot of fun so watch for more details!
Explore the Trail Series – Our Explore the Trail Series will begin in October and run through May of 2007. They are generally held the first weekend in the month on a Saturday or Sunday depending on the trail (hunting season considerations) more details to follow on the first ride of the season.
Potential Road Trip! - CSRA SORBA chapter has been invited to spend a weekend at Camp Mulberry by the NWGA SORBA Chapter. Contact Marco White - mawhite@na.ko.com – for more details - preliminary details follow:
NWGA SORBA. has a beautiful camp at the foot of Ft Mountain just 7 miles from the state park. The camp’s name is officially known as "Camp Mulberry" it has three cabins that sleep up to six each that’s 18 total. They have other sheltered buildings that people can sleep on cots or on a pad in a sleeping bag on the floor around another 50 or so could camp this way. The grounds will accommodate at least 25 tent campers and the camp has a meeting hall and separate kitchen and separate bathroom facilities for both women and men complete with showers toilet and vanity.
We are officially invited to a weekend in the mountains, a mountain biking adventure in the Cohutta's.
James says the trails in this area are second to none, Iv biked in NC, SC, GA, TN, VA, WV, Ca, Calif Utah, and CO. Our Bear Creek Pinhoti, FS90 (with over a 4 mile downhill) Cohutta Overlook (over 4.5 mile downhill) are second to none these trails are not like the "Snake" which is hard core these are Intermediate to Strong Intermediate trails the difference is which direction you do the rides in.
NWGA SORBA will furnish the dinners both Friday and Saturday evenings.
We will be discussing this at the meeting to determine the level of interest in this trip – if you are not going to the meeting but are interested be sure and let Marco know!
Trail News – Several trails need work this fall and we’ll hopefully get some of that work scheduled soon – cooler weather is finally here and shorter days means it is time to pull out the nightlights. Use caution since there are trees down on some of the trails right now!
Turkey Creek – This trail was reported as nearly unrideable due to overgrowth and remnants left by a storm earlier in the summer.
FATS – Good condition – could still use some sticker lopping here and there and we have a tree down on the Great Wall loop that is approximately 3 miles in going counter-clock-wise. Respect trail closure at the start of hunting season please!!!
Wine Creek- This trail was reported as nearly unrideable due to overgrowth and remnants left by a storm earlier in the summer.
Horn Creek/Lick Fork - Good condition and a little overgrown in a couple of sections but the Drawdy’s have removed the 5 trees that were down on the trail!!
Hickory Knob – Last report there are trees down on at least the Lake Loop.
Canal Off-Road – The trail is in good condition – but there are trees down on the section down by the river near the start.
Modoc – Recent reports are the trail needs some maintenance due to overgrown areas and trees down.
Long Cane – Good condition!
Baker Creek – No current report!
Bartram (Wildwood) - still closed due to construction.
Keg Creek – In good shape but there are currently 4 trees down!
Bartram Trail (Lake) – Good condition but there are quite a few trees down between Lake Springs and West Dam (three are riders but the other 3 or 4 you have to crawl under or go over), the area near the old airstrip is very overgrown – a small work party next weekend should clear the trees and overgrowth.
Issaqueena - The Doyle Bottom area of Issaqueena needs maintenance. The upper areas are in good shape.
