Volunteers Needed - We need a small group of volunteers to install mile markers along the Bartram Trail for National Public Lands Day. The volunteers will get free pizza & t-shirts at an Army Corp of Engineers picnic at Clarks Hill Lake on September 30th. The volunteer work can be performed any time before September 30th.
Potential Road Trip! - CSRA SORBA chapter has been invited to spend a weekend at Camp Mulberry by the NWGA SORBA Chapter. Contact Marco White - mawhite@na.ko.com – for more details - preliminary details follow:
NWGA SORBA. has a beautiful camp at the foot of Ft Mountain just 7 miles from the state park. The camp’s name is officially known as "Camp Mulberry" it has three cabins that sleep up to six each that’s 18 total. They have other sheltered buildings that people can sleep on cots or on a pad in a sleeping bag on the floor around another 50 or so could camp this way. The grounds will accommodate at least 25 tent campers and the camp has a meeting hall and separate kitchen and separate bathroom facilities for both women and men complete with showers toilet and vanity.
We are officially invited to a weekend in the mountains, a mountain biking adventure in the Cohutta's.
James says the trails in this area are second to none, Iv biked in NC, SC, GA, TN, VA, WV, Ca, Calif Utah, and CO. Our Bear Creek Pinhoti, FS90 (with over a 4 mile downhill) Cohutta Overlook (over 4.5 mile downhill) are second to none these trails are not like the "Snake" which is hard core these are Intermediate to Strong Intermediate trails the difference is which direction you do the rides in.
NWGA SORBA will furnish the dinners both Friday and Saturday evenings.
We will be discussing this at the meeting to determine the level of interest in this trip – if you are not going to the meeting but are interested be sure and let Marco know!
Trail News – The trails are generally in good shape but there are plenty of opportunities for trail maintenance with lots of overgrowth and trees down here and there – don’t forget to spray or at least check for critters – the ticks are out in full force as are the mosquitoes!!!!
Turkey Creek – Trees down on Turkey Creek also needs a final section mowed.
FATS – Good condition – could use some sticker lopping here and there but has not deterred the masses!!
Wine Creek- Good condition but there are quite a few nuisance trees down particularly in the 2nd reroute and the overgrowth is abundant.
Horn Creek/Lick Fork - Good condition and no mowing currently needed! Report of one tree down recently.
Hickory Knob – Last report there are trees down on at least the Lake Loop.
Canal Off-Road – Last report the trail is in good condition - overgrowth is already a factor.
Modoc – Recent reports are the trail needs some maintenance due to overgrown areas and trees down.
Long Cane – Good condition!
Baker Creek – No current report!
Bartram (Wildwood) - still closed due to construction.
Keg Creek – In good shape prior to the recent storm, more details will be forthcoming after Dale has a chance to get out there and see if there is any damage!
Bartram Trail (Lake) – Good condition but the recent storm distributed debris on the trail and there are quite a few trees down between Lake Springs and West Dam (three are riders but the other 3 or 4 you have to crawl under or go over).
Issaqueena - The main trails in the center section of Issaqueena are all clear and not overgrown. Rapids, Pig Horse, Hunting Arrow, and Double Fork Tree all have challenges although apparently not enough to impede riders but enough to reduce the fun of the ride.
ORA Trail - No current report.
