(April 1/5pm) FATS Update>
FATS is still under official USFS closure.
As an update, the system rolled through quickly around noontime dropping about half inch of rain. Trails weren’t recovered from that 4 inches of rain early in the week. It will likely be 48 hours or so before the trails dry out. The wind will help dry the trail surface where there are not active seeps. Stay tuned!!

FATS Update!
FATS is still under official closure by the USFS.
Trail check mid-week revealed some seeps are still active but with the impending rain today and tomorrow it will likely be a few more days before the trails are open. That is dependent on how much rain we receive. Drier conditions are in the forecast.

(April 18/8:45pm) FATS Update
FATS is still under official USFS closure. A trail check today revealed several active seeps but they are declining. We anticipate the USFS will open FATS within the next couple of days. Stay tuned for updates!
The past month has been unusually wet with 7 inches of rain which is why the ground water is still so high. Please respect the closure to help prevent damage to the trails before they are opened. To all trail users who have respected the closure and helped protect this great resource……thank you!!!

There are still a few seeps out there which means the water table still needs to drop some. Please stick to the middle of the trail in those areas to prevent trail widening.

(Apr 30/12:30pm) FATS Update>
The system that rolled through the area starting yesterday and finally moving off dropped about an inch of rain. Trails will need about 48 hours to dry out. This should be surface drying which may get an assist from some predicted wind this afternoon.

(May2/4pm) FATS Update!
With all the wind over the past couple of days, and no elevated ground water to create seeps, the trails have dried out nicely.
There will still be some soft spots so please stay in the middle of the trail to keep the single track single!
Use caution when out on the trails with these erratic wind patterns. There are dead trees that just need a push to come down and plenty of hung-up trees that can fall in higher winds.

(May 12/11:30pm) FATS Update!
System moving across the CSRA brought a wide variance of rain, between .25 to over 4 inches. Rain is continuing south of I-20.
The gauges we use closest to FATS indicate just over a quarter of an inch of rain. If FATS did not get any heavier rainfall, trails should be good to go by noon tomorrow, Saturday, May 13th.
If you use the trails and it appears they did get much more rain, please give us a heads up at sorba.csra@gmail.com Thank you!

(May 22nd/11:00am) FATS Update>
Early Sunday morning the inch plus of rain ended and we indicated without more the trails should dry out in a couple of days. That has been delayed by the lower temps, overcast skies and now additional rain lasting about 4 hours. This rain will not add much additional rain into the mix but it will delay the drying out process.
Stay tuned for updates. Please do not use the trails when they are wet. Help keep this great resource in good condition. Thank you!!

(May 30th/9:30am) FATS Update>
Trail check yesterday indicated trails need a little more time to dry out from Saturday’s late rain. Anticipating trails will be good to go by tomorrow.
Please stay in the middle of the trail when encountering wet/mucky areas, some areas are becoming greenway width and that is hard to fix once vegetation has been killed back. Please help us keep the singletrack single!! Thank you.

(May 31st/7:00) FATS Update!
Conditions were checked on one of the FATS trails late yesterday and the trail should be good to go with the majority of the trail tread dry or hero dirt. You will still encounter wet or mucky spots, please stay in the middle of the trail through these areas to avoid widening the trail! Thank you!!

(Jun 12/8am) FATS Update>
Picked up some additional rain in the early morning hours bringing the total rain accumulation to half an inch. It has been dry for a few days prior so trails should be okay to use this afternoon.
Again we don’t have rain gauges along the trails at FATS and with pop up and stray thunderstorms it can be difficult to pinpoint. Would appreciate feedback if much wetter trail conditions are ever observed> sorba.csra@gmail.com
