June Meeting! The June meeting will be held at Nacho Mama’s on Tuesday, June 13th – we will be riding a couple of rounds of the mtb trail (meet at the Augusta Canal pumping station at 7pm) - the meeting will start at 8pm at Nacho Mamas! In the event it is raining at 7 or if rain on Monday or Tuesday is significant enough to negatively affect trail conditions, meet at Nacho Mamas for dinner at 7, the meeting will start at 7:30.
Explore the Trails/National Trails Day/Thunder over Thurmond – Saturday, July 8th – come enjoy this CSRA tradition and celebrate the Fourth of July. The Lincoln County, GA and McCormick County, SC counties team together each year to put on a deluxe firework celebration after the 4th. We hold this event at Hickory Knob State Park and will have an afternoon ride followed by a cookout and then a night ride out to a point on the lake loop trail that gives a great view of the fireworks being set off near the Savannah River Bridge on US 378. More details will follow soon mark your calendars this is an event not to be missed!!
Upcoming Work Parties – We will be discussing the scheduling of upcoming work parties to handle the mowing of the trails with most critical need at this meeting!
Tsali Trip – This trip was well attended and had 28 participants (24 campers!!!!) – the weather was beautiful and high 70’s after a bit of rain on Friday – great riding and great fun!
Trail News – The trails are generally in good shape but there are plenty of opportunities for trail maintenance with lots of overgrowth and trees down here and there – don’t forget to spray or at least check for critters – the ticks are out in full force as are the mosquitoes!!!!
Turkey Creek – One large, large tree down between the 5 mile mark and the end of the trail – mowing needed badly.
FATS – Great – the four finished loops – Great Wall, Brown Wave, Skinny and Deep Step are all opened and in great condition. Please respect trail closed signs if they are posted after rains.
Wine Creek- Good condition but there are quite a few nuisance trees down particularly in the 2nd reroute and the overgrowth is abundant.
Horn Creek/Lick Fork - Great condition and no mowing currently needed!
Hickory Knob – Hickory Knob a tree down on Lake Loop – still has some juicy areas…deberming would be helpful.
Canal Off-Road – Last report the trail is in good condition - overgrowth is already a factor.
Modoc – There are some trees down but the trail is in great condition to ride – it needs a DR mowing.
Long Cane – Last report it was in good condition!
Baker Creek – Good condition.
Bartram (Wildwood) - still closed due to construction.
Keg Creek – Dale Parrot reports this trail is in excellent condition – new bridge in place, the trail has been mowed and trees cut out – it is ready to ride.
Bartram Trail (Lake) – Great condition – some overgrowth in the old airstrip area but mainly be aware of picking up hitchhickers through this area!
Issaqueena - The main trails in the center section of Issaqueena are all clear and not overgrown. Rapids, Pig Horse, Hunting Arrow, and Double Fork Tree all have challenges although apparently not enough to impede riders but enough to reduce the fun of the ride.
ORA Trail - The word is that this trail is in top condition with great hard pack and no wash outs!!
VOLUNTEER RECOGNITION –
Thanks to Ray Shivley, Charlie Mock, Bryan Bigsby, Mike Donham and Dale Parrot for their volunteer work on the “spring” cleanup of Keg Creek.
Thanks to the FATS crew for continuing to keep those trails clear.
Thanks to the Greenville crew for their continued work on Long Cane as well!
