Due to COVID-19 Centers for Disease Control, State and local guidelines, below are some guildelines/best practices to ensure your safety and wellness on publicly used trails.
Practicing the following guidelines contributes to having these trails open to the public during this time of COVID 19:
1. Stick to your local trails (most trail closures have been due to the influx of out-of-town visitors).
2. Park 6 feet away from other vehicles so people can safely exit their vehicles while keeping a safe distance AND to help prevent overcrowding in the parking lot
3. Consider changing your trail use time to help alleviate parking lot overcrowding (Saturday and Sunday mornings are peak times)
4. Consider using other less used trails if the main trailhead at FATS is congested – the north trails of FATS (Big Rock and Tower), Turkey Creek Trail, Wine Creek Trail, Horn Creek Trail and Bartram Trail (access from Petersburg or Lake Springs Trailheads) are all good options right now. 5. Maintain proper social distancing at all times while at trailheads, stopping points or when passing folks on trails (recommendation is 6 feet).
6. When riding/running behind other people please allow much great distance than 6 feet. Due to your speed you are rushing into the airspace they just left.
8. Do not gather in groups of 3 or more on any trails located in South Carolina (most of our trails), this is a mandate by SC Governor McMaster.
9. Ride within your limits!. Back off the intensity and ride on the safe-side. Medical providers do not need your visit right now!
10. Stay abreast of all the local and national guidelines as they can change quickly.
