I wanted to express my thanks to all of the riders and volunteers on the Boyd Pond Park Mountain Bike Trail. I came across this forum while digging for pictures for the new Boyd Pond Facebook page I just created. By the way, I may use some of the pictures from the message board for the new page!
If you've been riding lately, you've probably noticed the work over on the disc golf course. We will officially open this Friday, June 10th. The gate where some riders typically park will now remain open for anyone to park inside and closer to the disc golf course. We will also be clearing a little bit more near the newly painted sign, which should allow more parking for those that prefer to park on that side of the road.
I also want riders (is that the right term for you guys??!!) to Like the new Facebook page and share photos, "check-in" to the park, and let us know what we can do to improve the trail. I'm not sure if the parking area improvement is a priority or if a better kiosk is needed or what, but please let us know. We have been working with a few members to improve the trail and I made the push to the GAIT Foundation for the planned trail improvements and expansion, so this amenity is clearly on our radar.
On a final note, we are Aiken COUNTY Parks, Recreation, and Tourism. For all of the work the county staff has done at the park, the planning for improvements, and investment we have made, I want everyone to know this is a County park, not the City of Aiken. We certainly want to our name always associated with this beautiful park, which somehow remains hidden to most in the area.
Thanks, again, for all that you do and never hesitate to reach out to me for anything.
Mark van der Linden Director Aiken County Parks, Recreation, and Tourism
