A thank you to whomever rerouted the trail on the old section. If anyone knows who did this work, let me know. If you are a trail gnome on this forum, please step forward. Your work has not gone unnoticed.

Thanks. You will be seeing more new sections being built under a GAIT, SORBA CSRA, Aiken PRT, and Aiken Land Conservancy trail improvement effort. New signage and maps, added length, a few re routes and some sustainability fixes from some of the old ORA originators. A summary is on the SORBA CSRA facebook page. Plan is to get most done before leaves pop and snakes return!!!

Trail improvement update; a new 0.35 mile segment has been added on to one of the See Saw Ridge hairpins. Brings you back to where it starts. Is posted as New Open Segment. Another new segment has been flagged and is under development off the climb towards the bench above Kabooki. It is posted as Under Construction and is NOT yet open. Trail is in good shape otherwise.

Quick trail improvement update. Just opened another new segment off the climb up to the bench before the Kabooki downhill. It loops off to the riders left and eventually returns via a nice uphill to same place. Its been ridden through several times, but still is soft and loamy. Lots of twistys and a nice return climb. About 0.30 miles.

We have added couple of new trail sections this week, (again off and around the Kabooki bowl) under construction. They are currently taped off but interested in any feedback about their "flow". We are inclined toward old school East Coast tight and twisty, think Eastern Woods Research bikes but let us know if it gets too annoying and we can straighten out a little bit!

I rode Boyd Pond for the first time today.
I had a blast on 90% of it and 10% .......I couldn't even believe on a couple levels.
It was like riding a modern bike on a something we'd ride back in the early 90s'. Not really a trail, but what we had to ride and we loved it.
I did have trouble finding where to start. Once someone told me to park across from the old golf course, it was smooth sailing.
Main Trail. Fun. Best part of the ride, no doubt. It is full of fall line, but damn it was challenging, fun, tight. Great old school rake n ride trail. I think there is a spot or two at the end that may need to be re-thought.
Four Logs of the Acropolis. No way this was done by the same person who did Main Trail. Saying someone is volunteering wrong is always bad form so I am not going to do that. I am willing to help dig, educate, whatever....But in the kindest way possible, Four Logs has some serious problems with flow, fun, fall line etc...It is not going to age as well as Main Trail especially if traffic on the trail system increases. Some of the stuff that made the least sense (to me) looked like it was a fairly easy fix. But it's still trail work and that is rarely "easy".
Pyscho Trail. Looked older than Four Logs, but doesn't get much use. Needs a little works. Needs wheels.
It looks like to me that some spots the trails goes where it goes because that was the easy place for it to go. But it isn't where it needs to go. I understand that bench cutting is bitch, and that place needs to stay hand built.
That is what I rode. Took my dog and she had a big time. I had a big time. Thanks to all who built it. I'll be back to ride and help out. I live 20 minutes from it and there is a really good disc golf course getting ready to open right across the street.

Rode BP again. It's getting hot, and I got worked. But this is the place to ride for me. I love it and thank you to those who put it here.
I want to meet up with the people working there and ride and help out. Seriously. I really want to start to put some flags in the ground there and figure out a way to handbuild some proper bench cut without killing myself or any others in a very small group. I'd like to figure out a way to pay a crew to handbuild down there. It will take some time, but FATS wasn't built in a day.
Boyd Pond has to stay handbuilt.
Aiken County PRT has the right people to work with right now and as soon as it cools off in the fall, it's time to go. I moved to Aiken about a year ago, thus the sudden interest in Boyd Pond. There is also a nice new disc golf course across the street, so it's a one-two punch for me to go to Boyd Pond.

It's hard to know if my intended audience is on this board (probably not), but this is the only reasonable way I know to try get the word out. Lately, someone (and I will assume with helpful intent) has been chopping out perfectly rideable small logs that stretch across the trail, some of which have been there for quite some time. This removes obstacles that make this trail interesting, and different. As one of the primary "trail gnomes", I ask that those reading this respect the approach we've taken at Boyd for many years now and leave such things in place. If it's a non-rider, great, jump in and help; but logs just a few inches tall that can easily be ridden over, and that don't create a legitimate hazard of some sort, should be left in place. It would be greatly appreciated by those of us who have some pretty substantial sweat equity in this trail system, and actually enjoy the fact that it is not a clone of other trails.

I have a tendency to agree with you. There was a rider after clown corner that someone had chopped out that was perfectly rideable. Unfortunately the one with the saw gets the say in what stays and what goes.

Thanks for all the feedback. Have been on travel and unable to post. Agree that someone is really quick with a saw on perfectly good riders; yes it is same folks who built old main now doing the recent new segments, part of logic was to recreate what old trail was like originally circa 1998 before it got smoothed in but also agree some bench cutting is in order. The project has been very well supported by park staff and Aiken PRT. Work efforts will resume in early fall when "fewer" Mister no legs and slightly cooler. We will solicit that sweat equity mentioned!

I noticed today there are some surveyors tape on a couple of sections that need some attention. If there is a work party planned, please post on here, I would be happy to pitch in, and my schedule is pretty flexible. Other than that, the trail is in good shape.
