Change in date, location, and time for the December monthly meeting.
The December monthly meeting has been changed to Saturday, December 6th at Mistletoe State Park! The monthly meeting will overlap with a visit by the Giant Bicycles Demo Truck, brought to you by Andy Jordan’s Bicycle Warehouse, so get there early, demo a bike, ride some great trails, then join us for food and the December monthly meeting. What: SORBACSRA December monthly meeting (and Giant Bicycles Demo truck) When: Saturday, December 6th. 12:00PM (noon) – 3:00PM is the SORBACSRA cookout and monthly meeting. 10:00AM – 3:00PM is the Giant Bicycles/Andy Jordan’s Demo Truck ( goo.gl/ghmxdb) Where: Mistletoe State Park, Shelter #1 (see map below). You: Please RSVP on Survey Monkey ( www.surveymonkey.com/s/RVJLW56), so we have enough food, prizes, and swag. We will give away a gift card to one of the attendees who RSVPs by December 1st.At the SORBACSRA December monthly meeting, we will feed you, you will elect officers for 2015, we will give away some sweet prizes to our top volunteers, and then we will give away more prizes/swag to all of our volunteers with 4 or more hours at an official work party in 2014 (we had 121 volunteers with 4 or more hours this year). Andy Jordan’s Bicycle Warehouse is stepping up with the big kahuna prize this year, Chain Reaction Bicycles is helping us with an excellent second prize, and Outspokin’ Bicycles is supporting our volunteers with a terrific third prize. All of the volunteers attending the monthly meeting will walk away with a prize and/or swag. There is a $5 entrance fee to the park. However, if you demo a Giant bike that day, you can use your park pass for $5 off at Andy Jordan’s Bicycle Warehouse (see goo.gl/ghmxdb for details and restrictions). In the event of unseasonably cold, wet, or otherwise miserable weather, we will try to move the cookout and meeting to an indoor group shelter within the park. Be sure to watch our Facebook Page or the forums for last minute changes due to inclement weather.

Have been following the weather predictions for Saturday all week long and it has been a little crazy. Right now they are predicting cloudy, 70 degrees with a 20% chance of rain. At any rate we will have a covered or possibly indoor if needed area so don't let the weather scare you off.

Each year we give one local bike shop $100 and ask them to stretch it as far as they can for a prize for one of our volunteers. This year, Andy Jordan's Bicycle Warehouse stepped up with a huge grand prize!!! Here is a sneak peak at what Drew did for us this year. You might recognize the brand, but you'll have to show up on Saturday to see what one of our volunteers (maybe you?) will win. Thank you Andy Jordan's for giving until it hurts. Oh, by the way, the Giant Bicycles demo truck will be at Mistletoe on Saturday from 10AM - 3PM. If you demo a bike, you can bring your paid park pass to Andy Jordan's Bicycle Warehouse for $5 off your purchase. See their demo page for details. andyjordans.com/articles/giant-bicycles-demo-day-and-cookout-pg433.htm

We're changing it up a little this year by giving another of our local bike shops $50 and asking them to stretch it as far as they can for a second prize for one of our volunteers. Chain Reaction Bicycles outdid themselves again this year with a prize that will be a welcome addition to anyone's garage, bike shed, possibly living room, or, if you're still living at home, bedroom. Here is a sneak peak at what one of our lucky, and deserving, volunteers (maybe you?) will be taking home Saturday afternoon. Thank you Phil for giving until it hurts.

Look at what several of our bestest partners donated for our volunteer appreciation event on Saturday at Mistletoe State Park!!! The Augusta Sports Council donated two piles of Ironman 70.3 Augusta tech shirts (in black and blue), our friends and partners at the Lake Thurmond - Savannah District U.S. Army Corps of Engineers donated a huge box of Georgia's Rivers volunteer t-shirts, and Bontrager and Maxxis Tires, via Southern Off-Road bicycle Association (IMBA-SORBA), donated a box of prize-worthy goodies - including tires, blinkies, pumps, tools, and bike computers. Last, but not least, we will be giving away a gift certificate good for a Thomson Bike Parts seat post or stem. A huge thank you to all of our private, public, and non-profit partners and land managers for supporting SORBA-CSRA and our volunteers this year. We hope to see you on Saturday! Thank you for your support.

Have you heard that tomorrow (Saturday 12/06) is our monthly meeting and volunteer appreciation event at Mistletoe State Park? This year, we upset the applecart and gave another local bike shop $25 and asked them to stretch it as far as possible for a "second from first" prize for one (or more) of our deserving volunteers. That's when Brett started clearing the shelves until the bag was full. Here is a sneak peak at what Outspokin' Bicycles did for us this year. You might recognize, even use, some of these products, but you need to show up on Saturday, and have volunteered at an official work party this year, to have a chance at taking one home. Thank you Brett Ardrey for giving until it hurts.

Were you a (trail work) GIVER in 2014? Here is a list of SORBAcsra's Top 25 trail volunteers for 2014 and, as you can see, there are a lot of seriously committed givers. The 2014 end of year tally will be 122 unique volunteers and 2,110.5 hours volunteered on trails in the CSRA. Were you one of the 122 givers this year? If you were a giver, come to our volunteer appreciation event on Saturday (at Mistletoe State Park) and win a prize, get some swag, and meet the other givers. If you didn't volunteer this year, but want to know more about what we do or how you can get involved, you are welcome to join us on Saturday too - and we'll even feed you. We'll announce the top 3 super-givers on Saturday. Thank you for your support.

The Columbia County Convention and Visitors Bureau has generously donated two entries for the 2015 Wildwood Games that we will give away to two deserving volunteers. These entries are good for any sport including the trail run, swim, disc golf, or, wait for it…the USA Cycling Marathon Mountain Bike Championships. Who doesn’t want to ride with the pros? Thank you Randy DuTeau for supporting SORBA-CSRA volunteers with this great opportunity to participate in the WW Games next year.

Weather looks a little iffy so we have opted for indoor space for our event so follow the signs once you enter Mistletoe State Park.

A few more pictures to share! Thanks so much to the volunteers who helped get everything ready for our annual volunteer appreciation event and December monthly meeting. The weather was drizzly so we were very thankful that Mistletoe State Park stepped up to help us move indoors for a special rate. There were 42 in attendance to share good times, food and some great SWAG. Make 2015 your year to join SORBAcsra and/or at least join us for some trail work - 150 miles of trail is a lot to maintain! Due to the rain the grillmasters had to move to a covered location away from the meeting> There was plenty of food> There is a bit of a glare on the cake (we do a photo cake each year), this year in a nod to the fact that the ice storm damage basically caused our volunteer hours to swell from a normal 1,000+ hours to 2,000+ hours in 2014, that is John Pilcher in full chainsaw gear working out at FATS> Some really great SWAG. Thanks so much to Andy Jordan's Bicycle Warehouse, Chain Reaction Bicycles and Outspokin' for being great partners! We managed to score other great giveaways from the Columbia County Convention and Visitor's Bureau and others. These two guys (pretty well-known since Paul Farrow on the left was SORBAcsra chapter president for 7 years and currently is finishing two years as SORBA president and David Kozlowski our current SORBAcsra chapter president>and begins his 3rd year in that role on January 1st)came in as the top two volunteers for 2014 with 183.5 (Paul) and 182.5 (David) hours. David awarded Paul these very cool titanium loppers!
